EXECUTIVE REPORT
Essential reading
As we celebrate 40 years of EHN, we ask hire executives throughout the country what the magazine means to them.
“
Matt Bloomer, MD, Traction Equipment (Stafford) I don’t just regard EHN as a publication: it is an organisation that has
always cared about and championed our industry, and the strapline on the masthead describing it as The Voice of Our Hire Industry encapsulates it exactly. I applaud the wholehearted commitment shown by the entire EHN team.
I cast my mind back to EHN’s
October 2002 issue. It
contained a Forum article on the
need for a dedicated hire show,
following the demise of Hirex, and it included my comment that it was
heartening to find someone prepared to voice concern over the situation. Indeed, the view I expressed then was that ‘The Voice of the Hire Industry are the only people for the job,’ and the eventual creation of the Executive Hire Show demonstrated EHN’s commitment to the industry it serves. I always look forward to reading Crosshire and the Forum articles, and overall the magazine gives me a very accurate portrayal of what’s going on in our industry.

The first page I turn to is Crosshire, which is always relevant and has the uncanny knack of being able to say what all hirers are thinking. Overall, I like the way that the magazine covers independents like us, as well as the nationals, and gives an accurate assessment of their performance. In many ways, the magazine helps unite the industry. I have kept every issue since we started Hire4Lower eight years ago.
There’s invariably something in a previous edition that I find myself referring back to.

facility scheduled to open in Most of my time is being spent here at the moment, but I made sure I
brought my copy of EHN with me so that I could read it during work breaks and keep up to speed. It is the only trade magazine I make a conscious effort to read.
I enjoy reading the profiles of other hirers and learning about their latest activities - and it helps us keep an eye on how our competition are performing!

I have kept a lot of EHN’s from previous years as a record of events and a
source of information. The magazine is an established platform for suppliers to introduce new machines to our industry, and through reading EHN we have read about a lot of products that we have gone on to add to the fleet.
It is a trusted source of information. Health & Safety regulations have represented a great driver of hire business, and EHN’s articles on issues like work at height and HAV have highlighted new solutions available.
I enjoy the articles about other successful hirers because they enable you to
compare your ways of operating against others, and maybe to learn something in the process. Also, this is very much an industry in which a lot of people know each other, and reading EHN lets you see what they are doing and helps you keep in touch.

The magazine also has the ability to drill down beneath the veneer of some organisations, and it gives hirers a true picture of the industry.
