trains on Saturday or Sunday, as both had sold out rather quickly, so I settled for walking in to the High Line above Rockwood each day. The Saturday trip featured a combine and two coaches painted green with two red coaches bringing up the rear. Sunday was a Sil- verton mixed with freight cars ahead of a few passenger coaches. Other than the mid-afternoon clouds

at Moffat on Tuesday, the rest of the week had been nothing but sunshine and crystal clear skies. I shot the Sunday photo train above Rockwood, headed into Silverton to shoot it again and then start- ed the drive back to Denver. This was one of those driving days where 350 miles wasn’t enough. Perfect weather, out- standing scenery — I think I could have driven another 350 miles easily. Once back north I decided to drive to Moffat Tunnel’s east portal to see if any night photo opportunities presented them- selves. Note: Do not follow your GPS from I-70 around Idaho Springs up to Rollinsville. The roads my GPS had me taking could be kindly described as inter- esting. As darkness moved in, I had enough of the GPS-recommended roads and found myself trying to remember ex- actly which dirt roads and goat trails I had taken before I decided to turn around. I was never so glad to get back to civilization, where I pulled out an old- fashioned Rand McNally atlas and found my way to Rollinsville via paved roads. My goal for my last day (Monday, Sep- tember 26) was to get a train in daylight
