FRANK JOLIN Heritage Dome Makes Autumn Runs

AMTRAK’S GREAT DOME OCEAN VIEW, accompanied by P42DC No. 145 in matching Phase III heritage paint, made its customary every- other-day runs on the Adirondack between Albany and Montreal in Sep- tember and early October, 2011. Here southbound train 68 is shown on

Canadian Pacific trackage passing the Red Rocks high above Lake Cham- plain’s Willsboro Bay on September 25, 2011. The dome is scheduled to op- erate between Chicago and Washington, D.C., on the Cardinal, eastbound on October 29 and November 5, and westbound on November 4 and 11.

Delaware-Lackawanna

SLATEFORD INTERCHANGE REOPENS: Delaware-Lackawanna's interchange with Norfolk Southern at Slateford Junction, Penn., was reopened on September 17, 2011, after re- pairs had been completed on Bell’s Bridge over Brodhead Creek near Delaware Water Gap, Penn. The bridge was closed on February 11 after engineers found significant structural degradation apparently caused by salty runoff from Interstate 80, which passes over the span. The closure isolated the Rock-Tenn paper mill, located east of the bridge, from the rest of the D-L system. While the bridge was closed, Rock-Tenn was serviced by a crew using a Trackmobile out of Slateford Junction, while cars for the rest of the D-L were tem- porarily interchanged at Scranton.
