The broadcaster and comedian Stephen Fry vented his spleen on Twitter when he received a penalty charge notice (PCN) stuck to the screen of his iconic London taxi. Fry, one of the most- followed of the celebrity twitterati, tweeted: ‘Got a parking ticket on my taxi today. Was v puzzled and cross: turned out to be from fi neparkingcompany.
wordpress.com Anger melted into amusement.’ A visit to the website reveals that the fi neparkingcompany is a site dedicated to ‘reversing the negative emotions unleashed on receipt of a PCN.’ The site says: ‘If you are reading this, you are likely to have received a Fine Parking Ticket. Thank you for visiting the site.’
The yellow tickets look realistic but, once a recipient opens it, he or she will realise it is a spoof. The message congratulates the driver on their parking and hopes the joke has made them smile. The company explains: ‘A parking ticket on a vehicle has a large impact on a person’s day, compounded by a possible altercation with the traffi c warden.’
‘The Fine Parking Ticket is issued in exactly the same way as a standard parking ticket, so the initial reaction will be the same. However here the similarity ends. It is written in a completely different way – the outcome on reading being immediate relief much, we hope, to its recipient’s amusement. Hence a complete reversal of the usual emotional response.’
