BPA ACTIVITIES SCOTTISH EXHIBITION AND MEETING

place in just a few week’s time on 25 October at Dewars Centre, Perth. Alongside the exhibition will be a meeting of the

Scottish group, which offers attendees a packed day including viewing all that is new in parking products and services, as well as access to a number of must-see presentations. Entry to the exhibition and meeting is free of charge. A real coup for the event this year is the

attendance of Keith Brown MSP, Scottish Minister for Transport and Infrastructure. Brown will be welcoming visitors to the exhibition and giving an address to the delegates. Tis is an opportunity for members to ask questions and raise issues with the minister face-to-face, and his attendance is another indication of the importance of the group in the eyes of the Scottish government. Te exhibition stands have been selling quickly

and the number of exhibitors is approaching 30, but there are a few spaces available. Two event partners are on board this year – Keltic Clothing and Liberty Services. Both of these organisations have been supporting the Scotland group since early 2011. Tere is a growing market for parking products

and services in Scotland as more councils move towards adopting decriminalisation of parking enforcement. Tis market is enhanced through increased engagement with the private parking sector, hospitals and universities within the group. Te event will be marketed widely to all sectors

with an interest in parking in Scotland, and additionally the BPA is inviting colleagues from all over the UK to come along and enjoy some great Scottish hospitality. Te meeting agenda will feature not only the

minister’s address but also presentations from the Scottish government on the Blue Badge reform. Northgate Public Services will be on hand to show off the new Blue Badge design and will be talking about administration of the scheme. Te Scottish Business Crime Centre will be

discussing the Safer Towns initiative, with an emphasis on parking. It will be

supported on this by representatives of the Safer Parking Scheme, who will be on hand in the exhibition to talk about the benefits of being a Park Mark award-holder as well as answering any questions existing award-holders may have. Te BPA launched a new Master

Plan for Scotland earlier this year and there will be further development work to be done as we move towards 2012. Te Master Plan sets out

the aims and aspirations of the parking sector in Scotland and also highlights the issues that are important to those working within it. Tis plan is presented to government as a basis for

lobbying and to help policy-makers understand the issues that are important. Te BPA would like the plan to be led by members in Scotland and therefore the meeting will discuss the current plan and seek the views of attendees as to what should be included in future versions. Te NHS has been invited to attend the meeting

to discuss the emotive and complex issues surrounding parking charges at healthcare sites, and the Scottish Adjudication Service has also been asked to attend.

Hospitality Scottish-style

The exhibition will not be all about business – Scotland is famed for its warm hospitality and enjoyment of social occasions, and this event is no different. For exhibitors who arrive on 24 October to set up their stands there is an opportunity to join colleagues for supper and to try their hand at curling. I’m sure most people have watched the winter Olympics and seen teams brushing furiously in front of the stones to guide them to the target – this is undoubtedly hard work and skilful and requires years of practice, so it will be interesting to see how everyone gets on. A qualified instructor will be on hand to assist and, good or hopeless, win or lose, it will certainly provide an entertaining evening! After the exhibition there is a chance to regroup with other attendees and relax over dinner and a wee dram or two – this will take place at the Ramada hotel near Dewars, which is also the headquarters hotel for the event. All of this makes the BPA Scotland Group exhibition and meeting a must-attend event for all parking professionals, networking, information-sharing and learning more accessible to our colleagues in Scotland and the north. On behalf of the officers of the Scotland group we extend a warm invitation to all to come along and make this an event to remember. To register for your free place at this event please visit
