GREEN LIGHT AT THE LISTER

A hospital multi-storey car park project in Stevenage, which was taken from design stage through to completion by parking operator Vinci Park, has been opened a year after work started.

The £7.9m car park at the Lister Hospital is proud of its green credentials, with 10 per cent of its energy coming from renewable sources.

The 667-space car park has a living green wall, recharging points for electric vehicles, a secure area for parking bicycles and a fully landscaped plaza incorporating a sculpture made from an oak tree and designed by a local artist. The car park also features a silent wind

turbine and photovoltaic solar panels, which together generate renewable electricity for the car park. Vinci Park are running the hospital under a 30-year private fi nance initiative contract. The company’s chief executive, Mark Evans, said: ‘We’re thrilled to be opening this car park at Lister Hospital. This is Vinci Park’s second new-build car park in the health care sector to be completed on time, and to budget, in 2011. The car park features a number of ‘fi rsts’ for Vinci Park and we’re hopeful that our partnership with the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust will result in a signifi cantly improved experience for both patients and staff.’
