Manchester car parks receive safety award

CLOSE CALL IN COVENTRY

Quadruple awards for Manchester

Town Centre Car Parks (TCCP) is celebrating success after winning four Park Mark awards for its car parks in the Piccadilly Basin in Manchester. Te car parks are continually

manned, have CCTV, regular security patrols and 24-hour-a- day customer service. Uzmah Hussain, project

manager of TCCP, is proud of the result: ‘To have been given

Park Mark awards for our car parks is phenomenal. We strive to provide our customers with quality parking, offering convenience and security. Tese awards highlight that we are achieving this.’ Te award-winning car parks

are popular sites and customer feedback suggests that the high safety standards signified by a Park Mark award is a

valued factor when it comes to choosing to use a facility. Hussain said: ‘Our multi-

storey has 232 spaces and is fitted with more than 30 CCTV cameras to ensure that it is one of the most secure car parks in Manchester. A lot of hotels now recommend this car park as customers prefer to park where they know the vehicles are safely locked away.’

Coventry City Council is one step away from achieving a full house of Safer Parking Scheme car parks after a recent assessment. Safer Parking Scheme development manager Michael Gardner said: ‘Congratulations are in order as recent assessments by police assessors and Safer Parking Scheme development managers has led to 18 of the council’s car parks being re-awarded Park Mark status.’ In addition, a further six

car parks under Coventry City’s management have won the award for the first time. This positive development means that there is now just one facility remaining to achieve the award and the Safer Parking Scheme is keen to work with the council to get this site on board too.

Having 24 out of 25 car

parks with Park Mark status demonstrates that the council is keen to reduce the fear of crime and provide a safe parking environment.

SMOOTH JOURNEY TO WIN AN AWARD

Cruise Parking has recently been awarded Park Mark status following an inspection of its long-stay car parking facility in Southampton. This Cruise parking site

offers secure long-stay parking, catering for 1,400 vehicles left by the numerous passengers who set sail, departing from Southampton docks. With around 20 ships and

Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital Foundation trust has been named in the top 10 list of hospital car parks by consumer magazine, Which?.

All three car parks on site were awarded Park Mark following an assessment by the BPA’s Mike Bibby and Police Assessor John Hills. Director of estates, Jenny Gaplin, is pleased with the positive results and high standards achieved: ‘We are

absolutely delighted to be recognised as having one of the top 10 best hospital car parks in the country. The 1,600 space car park was built in 2008 because we asked our local community what they wanted most and a new car park was the overwhelming response.’

Crime has reduced at the site since achieving the Park Mark award last year, as only seven crime-related incidents were recorded in the past year.

380 sailings per year, that is a lot of passengers leaving their cars at the site, so safety is of very high importance to travellers. Families and individuals alike want to rest

assured that they can leave their vehicle in a safe and secure environment while on their travels, and the Park Mark award provides this peace of mind.

HOME ADVANTAGE

For Ian Carmichael, ‘Bringing your work home with you’ takes on a whole new meaning, as his home town of Berkhamsted has just been awarded three new Park Mark awards. As Safer Parking Scheme

development manager, Carmichael is pleased that Dacorum Borough Council has responded to the demands of the scheme and been rewarded

for its safe parking provision. Canal Fields, St John’s Well

Lane and Water Lane car parks have all been awarded the Park Mark status following an inspection by the Carmichael and the police assessor. ‘I am proud to live in a town

where so many car parks have Park Mark,’ said Carmichael. ‘I am so pleased that the council is pro-active in maintaining high standards of safety.’
