personal spec. with the multitude of accessories that were available. Now, there are dozens of companies making the 1911 and of course, this year is its centenary so no doubt there will be even more.
When rifle shooters are nattering over a pint, reminiscing over their pistols, the question often comes up – ‘If pistols were allowed again, would you bother?
My own 1911 was a relatively modest affair – a few extended this and that, a beavertail grip-safety, a flat back-strap with a bit of chequering, Hogue grips,

Rimfire Pistol Semi-auto
When rifle shooters are nattering over a pint, reminiscing over their pistols, the question often comes up – ‘If pistols were allowed again, would you bother?’ In my case – yes – I would bother. I would love another 1911. In fact I would have two. One would be absolutely standard and the other would be a ‘top of the line’ race-gun with every possible ‘whistle & bell’ fitted. Unfortunately, it’s not going to happen. However...
However? Let me take you back to the Newark Show at the end of February. Remember The Tunnel Target Sports Centre stand? Course you do! There was a crowd round it all weekend. We’d never seen anything like it – not for 15 years anyway! They were exhibiting a 1911 – several 1911s in fact and they were for sale! OK, let’s not get carried away here, these were only rimfire 1911s and, to make them UK legal, they had to have a 12 inch barrel and an overall length of 24 inches of course.

enlarged mag-well and of course Bomar sights. Tuning involved tightening the slide, tighter barrel- bushing and a trigger-job – it shot quite well without losing the ‘identity’ of the original gun – essentially, it still looked like a 1911!
But then, no two 1911s ever looked alike – a bit like Harleys in the motorcycle world – everyone customised. I loved my 1911 and when ‘nanny’ made me hand it in, I contemplated having it de-activated – but £600 was a lot of money so I didn’t and I’ve regretted it ever since.

The whole kit is quite impressive and a very nice carry-bag is thoughtfully included.
