VINCE’S REGULAR COLUMN WHEREBY ACCURACY NUTS CAN KEEP UP TO DATE WITH THE ACTIVITIES OF THE UKBRA AND ACCURACY RELATED ITEMS

Competitions We have a full write-up of the World Benchrest Championships elsewhere in this issue but we’ll concentrate on our Diggle 100/1000 yard shoots in September – our penultimate double weekend. I know I complain about the weather we get at Diggle rather a lot in this column but, this month, it surpassed even our usual horrendous winds.

On Saturday, for our 100 yard shoot, it seemed that only four shooters had a clue what was happening – and I wasn’t one of them! It came down to a last Match battle between current UKBRA Champion Ian Dixon and former Champion, Jeanette Whitney. Only a couple of thousandths of an inch separated them going into the last Match and Ian was the first to fall victim to the switchy winds, shooting an embarrassing ‘four’. Unfortunately, Jeanette shot an even bigger one, relegating herself into runner-up spot with Bruce Lenton (back from a great World Championship) in third and Jack Searle a good fourth.

Alan Seagrave with his remarkable Factory Rifle

The following day, the wind was still howling for our 1000 yard shoot. Whilst many were shooting quite enormous groups, Steve Dunn got on with the job and produced a remarkable string of sub. ten-inch groups to easily take the win. Amazingly, it was Alan Seagrave shooting his 6.5x55 Tikka factory rifle who took second spot and thus winning Factory Sporter Class and shooting FS small group in the process.

Steve didn’t have it all his own way and despite four, single-figure groups, it was Jeanette Whiney who shot small group of the day with a superb 5.677 incher.
