Forthcoming Events
As the summer ‘chill’ fades into a distant memory, we look to the closing phases of the GR season, with the Trafalgar Meeting (October 22nd/23rd) and a week later the Autumn Action Weekend (October 29th/30th), both at held Bisley .
The Trafalgar GR Events are part of a larger meeting designed to meet the needs of historic arms enthusiasts and are run under the governance of the Historic Breechloading Smallarms Association (HBSA). Now, in its 38th year, the HBSA was founded in 1973 to encourage the preservation of breechloading firearms and to foster the study of all aspects from the aesthetics of the sporting gunmaker and engraver’s art to the functional equipment of the soldier or target shooter.
The GR events are slightly different from those shot at the ‘Action Weekends’ and must be shot with ‘Spirit of the Original’ firearms, i.e. rifles designed before

1919 (for the classic) and 1946 (for the veteran). The furniture and sighting systems must similarly be contemporary to the period but reproductions are permitted in many classes. I attended my debut Trafalgar Meeting in 2010 and will be submitting my 2011 entry form soon. The autumn Action weekend is the last opportunity to post a good score for those who wish to catch the selector’s eye for the GB and Home Countries Teams, so why not come along and post a personal best before the winter sets in.
