hard but they paid off and I was selected to shoot for Team GB around the world in Europeans and World Cups.

As a junior, I could compete in both senior and junior competitions and in 2008 and 2009 I won a silver in the Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney, Australia and a bronze and a gold in the Youth Commonwealth Games. Since then I have won titles with both rifles, domestically and internationally, such as Double English Champion, British Champion and European Team Champions.

Sheree Cox

Regular readers may have noticed that this is the first time we have use a picture! of an attractive young lady on the front cover of Target Shooter. This is not some ploy to attract more readers – Sheree Cox is one of Great Britain’s budding Olympic hopefuls and she got in touch with us as part of her strategy to fund her Olympic campaign. Shooters have had a particularly raw deal in terms of funding and we are happy to help Sheree achieve her dream of making the Olympic Team. But, Sheree is more than capable of speaking for herself...

My name is Sheree Cox and I have been shooting air rifle and 22 rimfire rifle for eight years now.

After training for a few years at my home club of Heston and Hounslow Rifle Club, I quickly progressed to the Great Britain Junior Squad and went to training camps once a month for a weekend.

After a year of competing domestically, I was selected to start shooting for the Great Britain senior squad - 5 years early! This was a massive step and it went from a weekend training camp a month, to a full week training camp a month. Training hours were long and

It has been an incredible journey and more recently I competed in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, coming 7th in my first senior major. Some of my favourite memories are the opening ceremonies and of course winning, as well as meeting new friends and gaining new experiences.

However, competing and winning comes at a price and after the government cut British Shooting’s funding by approx 78% last year, the training camps stopped. So did my funding!

This year has seen me rack up a bill of £8000 with accommodation fees, entry fees and flights to countries as far as Sydney and America for world cups. In order for my 2012 Olympic dream to stay alive, I must obtain sponsorship to help fund my career and so, with the help of The Sportsmans Association, I set up my website www.shereecox.co.uk which has all my details, history and photographs. Via the website, fellow shooters or anyone can donate any amount of sponsorship - large or small - to help me keep shooting.

Please visit my website or feel free to contact me by e-mail - also on the website - if you would be prepared to help me in any way, either by donation or sponsorship to keep my shooting career on target and hopefully keep British Shooting alive at the Olympics.

Many thanks, Sheree

We will follow Sheree’s progress in the run-up to the Olympics and we hope that readers may feel able to make a small donation to help her. After all, won’t it add that extra bit of spice to the Olympic Shooting events if you have some association with a competitor?
