themselves were not responsible for the observed toxicity. The data suggests that specific organic impu- rities present in the CSWNTs may be responsible for much of the concern associated with this material, and further work is in progress to test this idea.
“The process for removing the toxic material from the CSWNTs is relatively easy, and could be applied to this type of common SWNT if it’s to be used in a semiconductor manufacturing facility,” said Rock- ford Draper, Professor, Departments of Molecular & Biology and Chemistry at the University of Texas at Dallas. “These insights could affect the way compa- nies purchase and use certain SWNTs.”
For more information and details about the research, see the forthcoming manuscript entitled “Cytotoxicity Screening of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes: De- tection and Removal of Cytotoxic Contaminants from Carboxylated Carbon Nanotubes” by Wang et al, that has been recommended for publication in Molecular Pharmaceutics.

“We are very pleased to report the company’s pro- gress in the agrochemical program. The selection of commercially-significant lead candidates by Star- pharma gives us a clear focus for future work.” said Starpharma CEO Dr Jackie Fairley.
Based on initial studies, Starpharma’s Priostar® dendrimers are well placed to capture several oppor- tunities in the US$40bn global agrochemical sector as the market continues to seek new technologies to improve efficiency and enhance performance.
Key results arising from the studies found that Starpharma’s Priostar® including:
dendrimers offered benefits
• solubility enhancement for more concentrated formulations;
• improved herbicidal activity as measured by brownout; and
• modification of soil penetration properties.
