SPA FOCUS
Mediterranean Moments
Summer time and the living is easy – especially when you’re cruising around the Med and Portugal. Calm blue waters, ancient towns, glamorous cities, glorious beaches; what else does a traveller need? Possibly a great spa, says Jo Foley
LUSCIOUS LISBON
As so many ships dock at Lisbon these days, you can make your visit a true pampering experience by visiting any number of new spas that have opened in the last year. The Malo Spa at the Corinthia Hotel Lisbon is possibly the largest in the area, a dark and deeply sexy collection of 14 treatment rooms and a host of packages that include fat reduction without surgery, anti-ageing therapies, pre and post-natal versions and a choice of men’s treatments. One of the few places to offer make-up at the end of your ritual, it will get you ready for parties, weddings and grand functions. It even has a Business Special – what every working woman needs from time to time – a distress facial and body treatment. If all you want is to relax with a hydro-massage or in the Roman baths, you can do that too, and then take tea in the special tea lounge, which offers more teas than you ever thought existed More info:

MAJORCA MAGIC
For something completely different make for enchanting boutique hotel Hospes Maricel in Majorca, which has won awards for everything from its design to its breakfasts. Overlooking the sea and just a few miles from wonderful Palma, you can be lulled by the sound of the waves and the ultra relaxation of its spa. And, although it is open only during the summer season, it lacks neither choice nor expertise. A comprehensive selection of massages
is available, from Balinese to Thai via aromatherapy and the sports version, while it is one of the few places to experience the nurturing facial with massage by Cinq Mondes in its face-care massage. There is a hammam plus a range of scrubs using extracts of coffee, papaya and even the black soap from Morocco. Should you wish to be totally indulgent, there is a choice of one, two and three-day packages. More info:

Just a short drive from Lisbon right on the Atlantic coastline is the futuristic looking The Oitavos on the Quinta da Marinha estate. Not only do you have the ozone freshness of the ocean helping you look and feel better but a gorgeous nine treatment room spa offering a menu of holistic massages, wraps, scrubs and facials. It is also one of the few places in mainland Europe to offer ocean-inspired organic treatments by Voya. Try one of their seaweed baths – it is a great de-toxifier. More info:
