Ladies Seeds World Championships 2011 for the

Name: Sue Thompson Seed: One

Has any sportswoman dominated their chosen field like Sue Thompson? Perhaps but highly unlikely. The Merseyside born, Humberside based left hander continues to dominate the ladies game as she has done for 15 years.

And like a fine wine, Sue seems to be getting better with age. She's the undisputed world number one and has the world titles to prove it.

Sue returns to Blackpool bidding for a hat-trick of wins and is unbeaten since losing in the 2008 semi-finals. Last year's 8-4 victory over Emma

Name: Emma Cunningham Seed: Two

It's Emma Cunningham's misfortune to be playing pool in the same era as Sue Thompson.

Surely, in any other time, the Northern Ireland born star would have more than her solitary one world title.

Even Thompson feels some sympathy. "Emma is a great player," she says.

"You don't get to six world finals without being very good and I am sure she will have her day."

Cunningham was her 10th world crown and fifth win in six finals.

Most players would be satisfied with such a haul..but not Sue. After her 2010 triumph she said:"I am only 40 and if Phil Taylor can keep going, I am sure I can keep going.

“He’s got 15 world titles so that would be a good total to get. “Hopefully, I can. When I realise I'm not at the top, that's the time to stop.”

The popular Newry star, whose sister Mary also plays very good eight ball, has lost five of those finals. However, she has enjoyed her one moment in the sun, lifting the trophy in 2005.

Indeed, Cunningham remains one of only three girls, other than Thompson, to have become world champion this Millennium.

Name: Barbara Taylor Seed: Three

There have only ever been two English winners of the ladies title since the championships were inaugurated in 1993.

Linda Moffat/Leadbitter won four times while former women's snooker professional, Lisa Quick, came good in 1999.

England stalwart Barbara Taylor came close to joining that exclusive club in 2008. Defying serious back problems, the Kent star reached a final that didn't include Sue Thompson.

Name: Lynette Horsburgh Seed: Four

Blackpool's own cue queen enjoyed her finest hour at the Norbreck Castle Hotel in 2008. From 2-0 down, she beat Barbara Taylor 8-6 in the final.

That victory followed her 7-2 semi-final success over defending champion Sue Thompson.

Sadly for Lynette, she has failed to repeat those magic moment in the past two seasons. Indeed, 12 months ago, she became the first of the top four seeds to tumble, beaten 6-5 by Jo Kent.

That defeat almost cost Lynette her seeding but she

Unfortunately for 'Babs' she came up against an inspired Lynette Horsburgh and had to settle for the runners-up prize.

Last year, Barbara reached the semi-finals but lost 7-2 against Emma Cunningham. She also reached the World Masters final. losing 6-4 to Michelle Brown.

Back again and seeded three, international Barbara would be a popular champion if she can achieve her ultimate goal.

holds on by one point from Northern Ireland's Michelle Rooney.

Partner of American Pool star and former World 8- Ball Pool Championship contender, Karl Boyes, Lynette hasn't had a great deal of practice time recently...as she became a mum for the first time!
