Seeds for World

the

Name: Mick Hill Seed: One

Only Gareth Potts has beaten the Blackpool 'Bogey' but Mick has a chance to place his own name in the history books this year.

Made up for his disappointment in the 2009 final- when beaten by Phil Harrison-to claim only his second world crown 12 months ago.

He did so at Potts' expense and so avenged his defeat by his Stoke rival in the 2007 showpiece.

The Black Country born star knows his talent deserves to have brought him more than two world

Name: Gareth Potts Seed: Two

The most successful player in the history of the World 8-Ball Pool Championships with three titles to his name.

The former number one seed last won in 2008 and since then he's been to the last eight and the final.

However, the joint owner of a Staffordshire pool and snooker club hasn't been short of silverware in the last few years.

Indeed, he's surpassed the records of Keith Brewer and Mick Hill for most titles on the Strachan Tour.

Name: Phil Harrison Seed: Three

A consistent World Championship performer and familiar face at the sport's most prestigious tournament.

The Cambridgeshire window cleaner reached the very top rung of the eight ball ladder in 2009.

Not too many people gave him a chance in the final against Mick Hill, a player who had often denied Phil some major wins.

However, the popular cue man came out on top and came close to retaining his crown in 2010.

Name: Adam Davis Seed: Four

Twice a semi-finalist in the last three years Adam is one of the many top players to come out of Stoke on Trent. He certainly had high hopes of becoming world champion in 2010.

He arrived at Blackpool after winning two of the opening three IPA Tours. And things went to plan as he progressed to the quarters. However, Phil Harrison stopped him in his tracks after an epic battle.

Davis was devastated to lose 9-8 after being 5-2 up. But he'd just done enough to claim the fourth

A runner-up in last season's European Professional to Bristol's Ben Flack and to Tom Cousins in the Professional Cup. Both games went to a final frame decider.

Phil potted his way to the penultimate round before losing 10-8 against Hill after leading 3-1. That match was the first time his parents had seen him play in nearly two decades.

They might not get an invite back after witnessing his defeat! A runner-up to Tom Cousins in this season's Vauxhall Grand Prix, Phil got his hands on a trophy by partnering Brett Wild to success at the Barcelo Scotch Doubles at the Festival of Pool.

His victory over friend and business partner Lee Kendall in Tour One this year took his tally to 12.

And he followed up with 'lucky' 13 against the same player in the next Tour as well!

Some argue a Tour is harder to win than a world championship.

But the prestige of a successful Blackpool campaign can't be topped as Potts well knows.

titles.

But perhaps now is the chance for him to make the trophy his own property for the next few years.

However, hasn't shown his best form so far this year despite reaching the last four of the opening IPA Tour of 2011.

Went down 7-0 to Neil Raybone in the next Tour and will be hoping for a change of fortune at Blackpool.
