How Have You Taken Advantage Of “Tax Refund Season?”

Late Christmas: “Our Februaries are normally busier than our Decembers, but tax refund season was late by two weeks due to the delayed filings by people who item- ize their returns, so we are down approximately 10 percent for the year as a result.” - Jeff West, Benchmark Audio - Springfield, Ill.

Weatherbeaten: “We tried daily Facebook specials, ‘90 Days Same-as-Cash’ financ-

ing, and a ‘Tax Refund Sale,’ but we met with limited success. The poor weather we’ve experienced and the overall weak economic environment were the main causes.” - Barry Vogel, The Ultimate Edge - Oswego, N.Y.

Two Stars: “Not just for tax time, we are promoting our two high-end brands for the spring season. I don’t have hard data yet, just my initial assessment, but sales and interest have increased slightly so far.”

- Erik Quick, Mobile AVC - Hyde Park, N.Y.

Down is Up: “We put together some subwoofer / amplifier packages, and slightly reduced prices on our remote starters. Sales went up 15 percent.” - Rick Snyder, Tri State Auto Accessories - Southaven, Miss.

The 49th Way: “I ran a couple of prominent ads listing all of the various services

we offer, including some new ones. Sales in March are WAY up.” - Nelson Hays, Bobwires Audio - Ketchikan, Alaska

Digital Dollars: “We’ve bought digital billboard time near our store and put specials on our Web site and Facebook page. We did good business for about four weeks, but now it has slowed down again. Hopefully, it’s not the end of the tax season, just a lull in the action.”

- Rob Lambright, Accent Window Tint & Alarm - McDonough, Ga.

Track ‘Em Down: “We routinely tailor our print and radio advertising to include ‘Tax Season’ specials at the beginning of the year, and track the number of ‘season shop- pers’ that visit our locations and mention an expected return as the source of finance for their intended purchase. Sales often increase in accordance to the number of tracked shoppers.”

- Michael Abeita, Audio Express - Chandler, Ariz. 14 Mobile Electronics April | May 2011
