Spring Break Nationals 25: Jack of All Trades

Unlike the consumer-centric shows of years past, the more

modern Spring Break Nationals has tried to leverage its pop- ularity to do more to benefit the trade side of the business. The show sponsored a Trade Only day, designed to bring East- ern and Southern U.S.-based retailers in to meet vendors and reps without the expense and time away from the store that a trip to CES demands. In addition, distributors LESCO and Audio America introduced lines to new and prospective customers. The show also invited vendors to hold training sessions to talk with local retailers and installers about prod- ucts, applications and expertise. MERA, the Mobile Electronics Retailers Association, host- ed a retailer roundtable discussion which featured OnStar’s Michael Solomon. In addition to talk of the upcoming OnStar product release for retail, dealers lamented decreased foot traffic and discussed new technologies with Alpine’s Mike An- derson, retailer Mike Dixon and Jeff O’Heir, editor-in-chief of Dealerscope. More than 100 specialty retailers took advan- tage of eight MERA Education sessions that were designed to help dealers better their businesses. ■
