We talk to Noelle O’Connor about TanOrganic

What inspired you to develop TanOrganic?

“Being a pale fair skinned freckled Irish woman and having worn fake tan for over 20 years, I noticed my skin was drying out prematurely. I did not notice it on my face as I only ever applied fake tans to my body and not my face because I always had concerns that the artificial colours would cause comedones (blackheads) on my, thankfully flawless complexion.

“Being a Beauty Therapist I have always looked after my skin. I always told my clients investing in good skin care pays off for us in later years and I am still a firm believer in investing in your skin from an early age. On my quest for a sunless tanning product that was nourishing, moisturising and healing on the skin I noticed there were little or none. There were very few organic tans and on closer research found there were no 100% natural tans. Hence, TanOrganic was born after travelling to the oldest formulator of sunless and organic skin care in the USA. I spent 17 months and a lot of cash researching and testing formulas until the final formula was cracked and that is now TanOrganic. “

Why are clients turning to organic fake tans?

“Consumers are becoming increasingly ingredient conscious these days. We are now at the same place with organic cosmetics as we were with organic food in the 1990s and the trend is growing year on year. Like food people want pure ingredients and the knowledge that what they are using is natural and organic. Many clients have allergies to mainstream tanning products and they can cause irritation where natural and organic tans can be worn with nearly always no reactions.”

How do I choose the right organic tan, there are many in the market place?

“Check your ingredient listings and ask your supplier what percentage of organic ingredients there are in the tan. Beauty products only have to have one ingredient that is organic or natural to claim organic or natural on the label. Ask if they have parabens, perfumes or synthetic colours.”

How do I know if the tan I choose is certified or uses certified ingredients?

“Ask your supplier if their ingredients and manufacturer is organically certified. Look for proof of certifications and what certifications are pending if any. TanOrganic is part of the National Organic Program and its ingredients are eco-certified. We are currently waiting for certification from the Soil Association and Organic Trust Ireland among many others.”

Why is TanOrganic so popular with clients with very sensitive skins and pregnant women?

“Because TanOrganic is genuinely 100% natural and organic there are no synthetic ingredients in the tan. There are also no perfumes, which are the number one cause of allergies in skin care. No product is 100% hypoallergenic as anyone can be allergic to anything. We always advise people patch test a small area first. We have sprayed over

“I developed TanOrganic as I could not find a 100% natural moisturising tan on the market and have still to find one apart from Tanorganic.”

Noelle O’Connor - TanOrganic

100,000 people with TanOrganic and have had 2 people that had an allergy and that was because they were already allergic to a certain ingredient. People who could never wear fake tans are now happily using TanOrganic with no irritations at all. The Irish Eczema Society also recommends us. Pregnant women love the tan as they are happy and confident with the fact they are not absorbing any nasty ingredients into their bodies via their skin.”

TanOrganic is also an Anti-Ageing body treatment as well as a tan, how is this?

“TanOrganic is full of natural moisturising ingredients. Unlike other liquid tans we are Aloe Vera based not water based and when you apply the tan it is like squeezing pure organic Aloe Vera juice onto your skin. It does take a little longer to soak in because it has no harsh drying ingredients in it. It also has Hyluronic acid, the skin’s natural

moisturising agent along with vitamin A, C and E. I developed TanOrganic as I could not find a 100% natural moisturising tan on the market and have still to find one apart from Tanorganic. I am constantly working on improving my formulae and love to get feedback from my consumers as to what they like and don’t like.”

How can you encourage apprehensive clients to try organic tanning treatments?

“Unfortunately we have to educate them about the negatives of not using natural and organic and that many ingredients in mainstream tan can be bad for the skin and cause undue irritations and allergies. You can start educating them by directing them to our website www.tanorganic.com
