Philippe Hennessy, founder and CEO of Pevonia International, visited Monart Destination Spa, Enniscorthy, recently to congratulate Monart and its team on their recent Condé Nast Traveller award; Monart was named in the top three Spa Retreats worldwide for the second year running.

Philippe is originally from France and is a descendent of Richard Hennessey, a member of the Jacobite rebellion who fled Ireland in 1691 with the ‘Wild Geese’. Richard, awarded land in Cognac by the French King, went on to establish the world-renowned Hennessey Cognac. Philippe Hennessey was intrigued to discover that the first occupant in Monart House in 1740 was the daughter of Andrew Jameson, who set up a distillery at the still in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford.

Philippe said he is proud of his Irish ancestry and delighted to see an Irish Spa achieve such fantastic worldwide recognition. He described Monart as a dream, unique and worthy of its recent achievements.
