1 John Saunders has been appointed to the new role of regional president of Fleishman- Hillard’s operations in Europe, the UK and Africa.


In 1990, Saunders set up 10


Fleishman-Hillard Saunders with Julian Davis and Rhona Blake in a joint partner- ship with Fleishman-Hillard. The firm became a wholly-owned Fleishman-Hillard office in 2001. He was named regional director for Continental Europe and Ireland in 2004, and regional president for the firm’s operations in Europe and Eurasia in 2007. He is also a member of the senior manage- ment committee responsible for Fleishman- Hillard’s strategic direction.

2 Ruth Burnside has been appointed to the board of directors of Fleishman-Hillard International Communications and to a sen- ior position on the firm's business commu- nications team. Burnside previously worked at the firm as client director from 2004 to 2008. She has over 12 years’ experience in the development and implementation of public relations programmes. Before rejoin- ing Fleishman-Hillard, she headed up the communications team at Aviva Group Ireland. Her role included responsibility for internal communication, media relations and corporate social responsibility. Her qualifications include an MA in political communication from Dublin City University and a postgraduate diploma in public and media relations from the University of Wales. She is a full member of the Public Relations Institute of Ireland (PRII).

3 James Hickey has been appointed chief executive of the Irish Film Board (IFB), a position he will take up on 1 June 2011. Hickey moves to the IFB from Matheson Ormsby Prentice, were he has been a part- ner for 19 years and has headed up the firm’s media and entertainment law group. He became chairman of Matheson Ormsby Prentice partnership in 2004 and served two two-year terms in that position while continuing to practise in media and enter-


tainment law. Before taking up practice full- time as a solicitor, he worked in the Project Arts Centre as theatre director.He has been chairman of the Project Arts Centre and chairman of the Abbey Theatre.


4 Microsoft Ireland has appointed Rob Pryce as sales director for Microsoft Advertising. Pryce is a graduate of economics and Spanish from UCD and of international marketing from the Michael Smurfit Business School. Initially, he worked within the traditional marketing environment before moving to the digital sector in 1999. After a number of positions within Interactive Return and Bluecube Interactive, Pryce established Diffiniti Ireland, Aegis Media’s digital agency. He was actively involved in the establishment of IAB Ireland, has sat on the IAPI digital council and lectures in DIT and the Digital Marketing Institute.


5 RTÉ Radio has appointed Jim Jennings as its new head of Radio 1. Jennings has worked in RTÉ for almost 20 years, most recently as executive producer of The Late Late Show. He oversaw a revamp in 2006 of the Rose of Tralee programme, and edited the Irish language series Léargas. He also has extensive experience in current affairs, as well as having worked as executive produc- er on special broadcast projects like the Special Olympics Opening Ceremony in 2003, Election 2002 and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? He started his career in RTÉ Radio 1, where he worked as a researcher on The Pat Kenny Show, Today at Five, Saturday View, and Studio 10. Between 1983 and 1989 he worked on seven gener- al elections, as well as over 30 party con- ferences, for Radio 1.
