Grand Prix Best Art Direction (Joint)
Campaign/Ad: Seven Signatures – Seven Executions Agency: Publicis QMP Client: TG4 Copy: Des Creedon Artwork: John Kilkenny Media:Mediavest
This campaign comprised a series of ads for the seven- part Seven Signatures documentary on TG4 and was selected as the NNI Press Ad of the Month for October 2010.
Featuring depictions of the seven men executed after
the 1916 Easter Rising, the campaign showed each one in their normal dress – poet, tobacconist, lecturer, barrister, piper and so on – both in individual shots and together before a firing squad. The NNI’s October judging panel included Garret
Murphy of Cawley Nea and Paudge Donaghy of DDFH&B. “Great photography – of the group and especially the indi- viduals – instantly sucked me in to find out more,” said Murphy. “Beautiful styling and mood.” “Part of a lovely campaign of ads that show off the newspaper medium with intrigue and style,” commented Donaghy. Borra, meanwhile, described it as a powerful campaign
that is amazingly single-minded. “Take a step back and look at it fresh – you feel something even before you think it,” he said. “A lot of art direction today is over-elaborate, over-digitised, but this photography has a raw intensity that stopped me in my tracks. “The craft quality is outstanding, as is the use of con- secutive pages. This campaign makes me feel like I’m at a themed exhibition. A worthy winner.”
