Tecmo Koei mobilises its Warriors franchise for a new campaign on 3DS. James Batchelor finds out more
THE POPULAR Samurai Warriorsseries makes its debut on 3DS with Chronicles. This more condensed instalment puts players in the role of two characters – rather than the dozens used in the home console versions – but the action-packed battles are no less epic.
Players can switch between the two with the touch screen, and the decisions they make for each one opens new battles. Additional scenarios will be available to download at a later date via the SpotPass system, while StreetPass pits players’ armies against those of other 3DS owners. “We expect the core gamers that are going to pick up the 3DS on day one to appreciate a deep, varied tactical action

EA’S BEST-selling franchise makes its 3D debut, allowing players to control the lives of more simulated families on the move in the series’ most comprehensive outing ever. Once again, gamers create and customise characters and their homes, guiding their Sims to either happiness or misery as they see fit.

Each Sim will have different personality traits that must be accounted for and encouraging them to earn money allows players to buy more furniture, clothes and other objects. Using the 3DS’s facial
recognition technology, players can even let the game automatically recreate themselves as a Sim.
The in-built camera models a new character based on the user’s hairstyle, facial features and more, and then the game allows them to customise their look as they live out their virtual dream life. Karma Powers, introduced with last year’s console versions of The Sims 3, have been carried over for this 3DS
iteration. These powers enable players to mix things up in the Sims’ worlds: for example, shaking the 3DS to trigger an earthquake or blowing into the microphone to set free a swarm of butterflies. Gamers can also use the
StreetPass function to share their Sims with other 3DS owners they cross paths with.
