THE GUESTLIST NETWORK | FEBRUARY 2011

DRUM&BASS//BREAKS//DUBSTEP 41 DJ MARKY

The biggest Drum & Bass album this month is without a doubt DJ Marky’s newest mix FabricLive 55. The album was released on the 17th January, and features some of the hottest beats around at the moment! When DJ Marky first got offered to work with Fabric, his first question was ‘When do I get to do a CD?’. He was so eager in fact that within a day of being asked to do the mix, he had come up with the track listing, and he recorded it within one take! Impressive. The aim of his album was to ‘create a CD that listeners of all denominations, creed, colour and musical preference could listen to in their own environment and feel surrounded by good music’. He has not disappointed! There is a consistent theme of relaxation with the soulful vocals and laidback melodies proving that variety and depth can still be found in modern Drum & Bass. DJ Marky’s respected enthusiasm for his music shines through yet again with his mix taking host to some of the world’s biggest Drum & Bass stars. Look out for Nu:Tone, S.P.Y, Calibre, Icicle and Skream all making an appearance. Biggest tune on the album? Chilled out summer song ‘Mystic Sunset’ from D.J Marky & S.P.Y.

SPECTRUM’S 10TH BIRTHDAY DJ KUTZ

Hey, hows it going. What are you up to at the moment? Hey! I’m good thanks. I’m in the studio at the moment finishing off my next releases for Digital Soundboy, Wheel & Deal and Biscuit Factory.

You grew up getting your beats off Hatcha at Big Apple record store in Croydon, and were part of the movement when it wasn’t even called Dubstep! Did you realise how big it was going to be? At the time I had no idea it would progress this quickly or be this huge. Garage was still big at the time and Grime was coming through, Dubstep was much more underground.

What influenced you to get into music? I’ve always loved music. I suppose I come from a musical household. There would always be music playing in my house. My dad listened to Dub, Reggae and Rare Groove, my older brother listened to Jungle, Hip Hop and Garage so I ended up listening to all the above and everything else!

What do you think is next for Dubstep? Its kinda hard to say as it still surprises me, its everywhere! I think there’s gonna be more Dubstep parties, good producers, radio play, and T.V time in 2011 and definitely a lot of great songs being made.

You have two new track Tabatha Taylor

DJ Kutz is one of Dubsteps rising stars, with a string full of new releases and a album dropping this year expect to hear a lot more off this guy in 2011.

releases Hypno and Itch, when can we expect an album? Yeah ‘Hypno’ and ‘Itch’ came out on Digital Soundboy, and I’m currently working on an album now. You can expect it when I have finished. Definitely this year.

Your playing at N- Types album launch party at Cable on the 25th February, you looking forward to this? Yep Yep! This ones gonna be absolutely large! I think we should get the full Guestlist crew down for it!

Where else can we catch you play this month? You can catch me at The Rhythm Factory on the 18th, obviously Cable on the 25th and there are a few more. Check out my facebook or twitter pages to keep up to date. www.facebook.com/kutzuk and www.twitter.com/djkutzuk

What music are you feeling at the moment? (Looking at my recently played on the ipod)...Kutz, J-Dilla, Kode 9, Benga, The Others, Breakage, Nivarna, Silkie, Magnetic Man, Shy Fx, Alys Be, Samiyam, Mala, Flux Pavilion, Mount Kimbie, Mampi Swift and IC3, Youngman, Soap Dodgers, Distance, Vivek, Dismantle, Benton, Roska, Dennis Ferrer.

Whats your favourite drink of choice? If your offering I’ll have a bottle of Armand De Brignac, if not I love

a courvoisier and cranberry or a pineapple juice on the rocks!

If you were invisible for the day, what trouble would you get up to?! I would probably use the time to find out the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!!

I know your a bit of a party animal, whats one the craziest parties that you have been to? I would probably say Oi at Paradiso in Amsterdam. They know how to party! Fwd vs Rinse.fm is always crazy too!

If you could have a swimming pool filled with anything what would it be?! Synthesizers and plug-ins!...OK honestly a pool of cash would be first choice, then I could buy all the synths I wanted plus a ticket to Disney Land :)

Can you give us an exclusive? Erm...I shouldn’t but DJ Hatcha is actually related to Teri Hatcher, the actress from Desperate Housewives!

What does 2011 hold for you? Great music, memories, happiness, great times and success.

Catch DJ Kutz play at Wheel & Deal at Cable on the 25th February.

The recipe for the rave of the month has elements of the illegal rave scene with a sprinkling of that festival air. Get one warehouse, fill it with as many speakers as possible, pack it out with some of the dirtiest hardcore ravers, dash in a pinch of Dubstep and a smidgen of Electro House and you have Spectrum’s 10th Birthday at the Ewer Street Car Park. Pendulum were the main headliners of the night, playing both classic tunes as well as some of their newer material. Big names such as Ms Dynamite, Tim Healey and Doorly all made an appearance at the London

warehouse, delivering a feel-good vibe. Then at the other end of the spectrum you’ve got Joker, Skrillex and Delta coming hard with wobbles so filthy you need a power shower. The event summed up in one word? MESSY!”

TRouble Vision PaRT 1 GIRLS MUSIC

For the first time ever, Trouble Vision took over one our favourite clubs in London, Corsica Studios for a whole weekend of dirty beats and mad bass lines. ‘Double, Trouble, Vision’ showcased some of the best music from the past 2 years and some of the freshest new music. The Fri- day night saw Part 1 Girls Music, featuring David Rodigan. When we first arrived the club was jamming and it stayed jamming all night long! Shy FX smashed his set as usual, whilst Roller Express with Toddla T, Redlight, Serocee and Dread all made an appearance and got the crowd hyped. With the silent disco in full swing, we partied until dawn broke. It was a heavy night. It was just a shame that we were too mashed to make the Saturday night!
