OFF THE RECORD

This week, Members of Parliament get to grips with video games, Lionel Messi’s secret FIFA affair exposed and EA Sports wins a place in the Guinness World Records. Plus plenty of Off The Record regulars including Industry Gamertags, From The Archive and a Tag-Team Interview between GAME’s Martyn Gibbs and EA’s Keith Ramsdale

GOVERNMENT GAMERS

Any doubts that politicians are just big kids were put to rest by the Parliament Games Day. Organised by pressure group Gamers’ Voice, the event saw MPs – including Ed Vaizey (left) and the camera-shy Keith Vaz – flock to try out Kinect, Move and more. Several policy debates were settled with Conservative John Whittingdale and Lib Dem Don Foster going head-to-head (pictured above left).

AND FINALLY

In our latest Bluffer’s Guide feature, we dispel the confusion around WAP and its potential uses, as well as the possibilities it holds for the games market. Sadly, we weren’t quite prophetic enough to picture anything like 3G and 4G connections or the iPhone – we didn’t even have colour in 2000. But we did say: “games on phones... it’s a massive market”. Called it.
