OVERVIEW

The 2011 Tauck Civil War Event is a one-of-a-kind experience crafted by legendary filmmaker Ken Burns and Tauck on the 150th anniversary of the Civil War in the epicenter of the war, Washington, DC.

This event is open to just 300 like-minded travelers who will be given the opportunity to experience the people and stories that define the Civil War, and by extension define our nation, in the places where they actually happened – including a personal appearance and evening with Ken Burns himself.

You don’t have to be a Civil War buff to enjoy this trip and it’s certainly not a bus ride from one battlefield to the next. By day, small groups of 30 guests will visit sites handpicked by Ken Burns to tell the story of the conflict. At night, all guests will come together for three extraordinary gala events with private, insider access to three of Washington’s, and our country’s, most important museums: the National Building Museum that was built as a Pension Building for Civil War Veterans; the National Archives – the central source for Ken Burns’s Civil War research and the location of Burns’s keynote address and meet and greet; and the National Portrait Gallery & Smithsonian American Art Museum – the site once used as both a Civil War hospital and the location of Lincoln’s second inaugural dinner.
