It is with great pleasure that I invite you to the 2011 Tauck Civil War Event. The first of many enriching, educational and, most of all, fun travel experiences we have created in collaboration with award-winning filmmaker Ken Burns.


Ken Burns and his collaborator, Dayton Duncan, have worked alongside Tauck’s team of tour architects to craft experiences that bring the stories and themes from their films and books to life in Ken Burns American Journeys. Tauck has been telling the story of America’s history and culture to our guests for 85+ years. By adding Ken’s and Dayton’s unique voices to our efforts, we’re taking our guests’ understanding of our country and national conscience to an even deeper level.


With the 150th anniversary of the Civil War upon us, what better place to understand who we are as a nation than with a Tauck event focused on this topic. And what better way to understand this pivotal event than through the eyes of the storyteller who is one of the foremost authorities on the subject?


Our Civil War event comprises five amazing days in Washington, DC including three extraordinary, in-depth small-group sightseeing programs where you get the benefit of understanding the conflict from Ken’s unique perspective. At night, we will come together to celebrate at three private gala events in significant and historic buildings in our nation’s capital. One night includes an exclusive keynote address by Ken Burns at an after-hours gathering at the National Archives, with an opportunity to talk with him afterwards. Another night will feature a Civil War dance and a lecture by noted Civil War historian and Lincoln scholar Harold Holzer at the National Building Museum. And on the final night, we will wine and dine at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery in the very same room where President Lincoln had his second inaugural ball. These are truly once-in-a-lifetime, exclusive opportunities.
