We've done it again! The Business Travel Magazine has been named Travel Trade Publication of the Year for the second consecutive year

WE'VE done it again! Yes, The Business Travel Magazine has been named Travel Trade Publication of the Year for the second consecutive year. The Travel Press Awards took

place in November, paying tribute to the best publications and writers across the print, online and broadcast sectors of travel journalism, covering both consumer and trade categories. The Business Travel Magazine scooped the Trade Publication of the Year award once again, with the judging panel paying tribute to its high-quality content and design which “make the title an easy and enjoyable read.” Four of TBTM’s writers were

also up for individual honours, with editor Gillian Upton and deputy editor Andy Hoskins short-listed alongside the winning Travel Trade Journalist of the Year, managing editor Alan Orbell.

PRETTY WOMAN TOPS THE BILL

Andy, who won that same title

in 2009, also had a feature about travel management companies short-listed in the Travel Trade Feature of the Year category, while regular TBTM contributor Laura Gelder was short-listed for the Young Travel Journalist of the

Year title. “The Business Travel Magazine has become the leading business travel trade magazine and it is vital that our writers provide good quality content that will both engage and fully-inform the readers,” says TBTM's publisher David Clare.

ROOMZZZ FOR MORE ZEN

ZIBRANT SHOW ITS ELFISH SIDE

Holidays, Back to School and Christmas. For every email sent to ilovethezibrantcalendar@zibrant. com commenting on the calendar, Zibrant will give £1 to the Meetings Industry Meeting Needs charity. Pictured below are Zibrant’s manager directors, Fay Sharpe and Chris Parnham.

WHEN it comes to sharing a hotel room, and if reality was no object, the wish-list of celebrity partners revealed by hotel.info shows we’re as shallow as ever. The survey asked customers to name both a celebrity and an historical personality with whom they'd most like to share a room. Pretty Woman star Julia Roberts and ER veteran George Clooney heading the list for the celebs, with recently engaged Prince William slipping down to tenth and Richard Gere, Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt all moving up the chart. Angelina Jolie, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Jessica Alba all made the men's top ten, while screen idols James Dean and Raquel Welch beat off the likes of Leonardo da Vinci, Elvis, Cleopatra and Marilyn Monroe in the historical figures poll.

EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES…

FOR many passengers it's the holy grail of air travel, but that doesn’t stop them having a go at getting a free upgrade according to Virgin Atlantic, which recently published a list of far-fetched attempts to be bumped up. “I’ve lost all my money in Vegas but I really need an upgrade,” was a favourite with staff, as was the straightforward, “Manchester United lost today, I’m really upset and need the space to get over it.” The prize for the most effort goes to the couple who turned up in full wedding attire and asked for an upgrade, while the most creative came from a mother claiming her baby had claustro- phobia and was in counselling, but still needed the extra space.
