We first met Jack way back in 1979, when he was in Tacoma selling the Naja 30 plywood boat building kits - thus the name of his boat, Fleetwood. He certainly has put thousands of miles under her keel since. Jack is one of the cruisers whose website is in our Cruisers’ Blog at www.48north.com

Good Fortune in Sidney Marina

I wanted to say how much I enjoy your magazine and pass on some information on a bit of good fortune that I had while in Sidney Marina. I had a problem with my small outboard motor prior to my arrival and had been rowing my dinghy for several days. This made me understand why

I had actually bought the outboard in the first place! Anyway, upon arrival in Sidney, I called Forsch Marine to find out the chances of having my outboard checked out and getting it running again. I’d had the little Yamaha outboard for about 10 years and never a problem, but it just wouldn’t start. I talked with Chris Forsberg there in Sidney and was surprised to hear him say that he’d meet me at the marina and pick up the outboard in about an hour. Now, during the busy boating season in August, I figured my chances of fast service were pretty slim. Chris picked up the outboard that afternoon, cleaned my carburetor and flushed my fuel system, returning it back to me at the marina the following morning. He charged me a fair price for the labor and I was on my way within 24 hours of pulling in. Just a great experience. So, if your outboard breaks down on you while traveling in the Gulf Islands, and you’re anywhere near Sidney, I can clearly recommend that you call Chris at Forsch Marine and more than likely he can get you on your way and treat you fairly in the process. Thank you Chris!!
