including a rare sighting of a reaching mark. I’m sure the Sailing Instructions came out of the chart table when racers saw the “B” for bravo mark on the course readerboard. While some of the crews on the bigger boats, that went to the top mark, said it was no biggie, others said they were just hanging on through the top reach, and others just had big grins and reports of top speeds in the teens. Unfortunately, for the smaller boats using the nearer weather mark, the reach was too tight for spinnakers,
although they did get to sheet out and hike it down. A rare discipline for around here, some were probably better at the jib reach than others and it may have been a different “some” than usual. From what I could tell from the boats gybing reach-to-reach with spinnakers and those needing to gybe set or bring the gear around, it was a course for which the fleet could use a little more practice, assuming there’s some interest in trying again someday.
