STYC Fall Regatta October 16


The Sloop Tavern Yacht Club wraps


up its busy 2010 racing calendar with the Fall Regatta. This is a series of short races designed to keep competitors alert as they are provided multiple opportunities to nail that perfect start, and find the best side of the course. This format always provides an accelerated learning and fun experience for all. The race committee will attempt to


run three races, followed by an awards presentation at the STYC clubhouse (Sloop Tavern). A skipper’s meeting will be held at the Sloop Tavern at 0830 on race day. Gig Harbor Lemans Race November 13


Gig Harbor Yacht Club will be


hosting the fun and exciting Lemans race. The race format will be starting at anchor in the harbor with all crew below decks. If you don’t have a deck, bring a cheap blue tarp and fake it. When the starting gun goes off, the crews scramble to set sail while retrieving the anchor. We have ordered the sun to go with


the low-key fun. There will be a post race feed for all participants and a no host bar at the clubhouse. Complete info, and entry form can

Round The County November 6-7


The Orcas Island Yacht Club and


the Friday Harbor Sailing Club invite you to participate in the 23rd annual, “Round The County” sailboat race. This race circles the San Juan Islands archipelago that comprise San Juan County, Washington, offering one of the most beautiful racing venues available. The course is often challenging, with numerous islands marking the edge of the course, a wide range of wind conditions experienced through the two days, and the very confusing tidal currents that careen around Islands. Friday night November 5th is the rendezvous at the Orcas Island Yacht Club, West Sound on Orcas Island. There will be a skippers meeting, pre-race briefing and no host cocktail party. Saturday’s race starts at Lydia Shoal


in Rosario Strait, just East of Obstruction Pass. The course goes south past Blakely Island, Decatur Island, around Lopez Island past Cattle Pass, across The Salmon Bank, up the west side of San Juan Island and finishes in Mosquito Bay. The course is 31 nm. Saturday night the sailors party in Roche Harbor. Sunday, leg two starts by Battle Ship


Island just outside of Roche Harbor, goes north toward Stuart Island, around the light house at Turn Point up Boundary Pass, outside of Patos Island, Sucia Island, Matia Island, Clark Island, south east along Orcas Island, and finishes at Lydia Shoal. The Southern Sound Series is a series


of four sailing races, one a month. The series takes the racer over most of the scenic, southern Puget Sound, from Olympia to Elliott Bay.
