Anne Catherine Kruger opened A
Caprice Kitchen and says it was "My Anchor" and I was swallowing it. I had worked aboard a tall ship right out of college as steward, cooking food for 40 people by myself. My kitchen was small, and it moved. I learned a ton about myself, about cooking, about being out on the open ocean. After three years I decided it was time to get a "real job" on land, so I went to Le Cordon Bleu in France to get formal training, then moved to Seattle. Then I got a job as chef onboard a 75' boat that took passengers along the waters of SE Alaska. After two seasons though, I decided
it was time to find an anchor. A Caprice Kitchen is in the space that used to house The Neighborhood Cafe,1418 NW 70th Street, Ballard. It was completely unintimidating and the kitchen was just slightly bigger than any ship's I had worked on! It felt like home. I procure most my ingredients from farmers who sell at the Ballard Farmers Market and focus on local, seasonal foods, changing the menu weekly to reflect what I find there. One day I will return to the water, but for now I am content with the home I've made at A Caprice Kitchen. Contact A Caprice Kitchen at (206) 371-2886 or
