business owner named Scott had two 5.5 Meter boats. After selling those he bought his Erickson and began to collect as many of the only 28 Ericksons ever made. Scott has a boat yard so he had the room to store them, along with several Columbias that he ran across. We have some great stories. A boat named Legacy has been in a family for two generations now. Legacy is beautifully restored.
Some of us sail them more than fix them, others have spent years fully restoring them, and all of us enjoy the revival of these fast and fun classic sailboats. We invite you to come and visit Fern Ridge Lake in Eugene, Oregon, home of the largest Scorpion/ Saber fleet.
Sincerely, Bill Guske

The Hot Forged Advantage
Just read your digital magazine (first time), nice coverage of the PNW. I’ll be sailing there next summer, but for now I sail the eastern seaboard, specifically NC. I wanted to comment on your article “Keeping the Memories” (July 2010), because I don’t read too many articles about Logs. I was glad to see it and the enthusiasm with which the author wrote about the tradition. Having written my Master of Fine Arts thesis on “Illustrated Logs,” a survey of captains’ and crew logs down through history, from the days of parchment and lamp black to the digital age, integrating the day’s events, data and imagery is a part of our seafaring heritage, great to see it surviving!!
Thanks,

ship’s log doesn’t just have to be a just a collection of times, headings, and other dry data; but a treasury of memories that can take you back to those special times and places that make your time spent sailing with family and friends so unique.
