This program is designed to increase sailing opportunities for participants of all ages and skill levels, provide easy, inexpensive access to sailing, improve sailing and racing skills, and create opportunities for quality time on the water with friends and families. The Focus on Sailing Program is open to all TYC membership levels. Currently the non-moorage membership fee at TYC is $500 which presents a great opportunity for young families to join the yacht club at a minimal cost and pay $300 a year to join the Focus on Sailing Program which provides the use of club boats. We chose the Cal 20 as our Program Boat because it is popular both as a competitive and fun one design racer, as well as a stable and forgiving day sailor. The beauty of the Cal 20 is its simplicity; it can be raced with just two people in lighter air and three people in moderate to heavier winds. The Cal 20 offers something to every sailor, from the landlubber beginner to the seasoned salt. See you on the water, Debbie Yeend, Focus on Sailing President

Jim Giger of Cal 20 Fleet 7 in Portland says the response to the article has been tremendous. They’re getting calls from all over the state regarding regarding fleet programs. It truly points out that it’s not so much what boat you’re using, but getting the people out and participating, like the folks in the next letter.

the largest fleet of these 5.5 meter cabin boats in the world! These are the mid 1960’s Erickson Scorpion and Columbia Saber sailboats. Beautiful boats with classic lines that make quite a sight on the lake.

I have the very boat my dad bought new in 1965 that we saw being built at Columbia Yachts back when I was about 12 years old. I bought it back five years ago and joined this growing fleet. About 15 years ago a local
