entering into the extended drydocking programme will undergo training on the ABS hull inspection methodology to learn what, when and how to inspect and how to get the best results from ABS Nautical Systems soſtware.
Conversion Cosco wins FPSO
deals COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard has secured two contracts totalling over US$100 million to convert two large crude oil tankers, Radiant Jewel and BW Nisa to Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels, for a Japanese and European shipowner respectively. Te FPSO for the Japanese shipowner is designed
to operate for 20 years without drydocking and it will have a production capacity of 24,000m3 million Nm3
oil per day, five gas per day and a storage capacity of 1.5
million barrels of oil. Te converted vessel is scheduled to be re-delivered to its owner around the third quarter of 2011 for deployment in the Petrobras’ Tupi Oil Field, near Brazil. Te FPSO for the European owner is designed to have an oil production capacity of 140,000 bbl per day, gas
compression of one million m3
per day and a minimum
storage capacity of 1.4 million bbl. Delivery is also set for the second half of 2011 and will be deployed in the Papa Terra Field, offshore Brazil.
UK SSA relaunch
Following consultation with its members and the rest of the UK marine industry about their needs, the industry association, UK Shipbuilders and Shiprepairers Associa- tion (SSA), has been re-launched. SSA aims to be the voice of the UK marine industry
and believes the combined strength of its member- ship will make SSA a ‘significant and influential marine network.’ Te association plans to supports members with five key initiatives: Networking & Lobbying, Business Support, International Trade, Innovation & Technology and Health, Safety & Environment. SSA’s website www.
ssa.org.uk has also been overhauled, with the introduc- tion of several new online services. SSA has further agreed to work with ADS, the aeronau-
tical, defence and security industry association, to ensure that there is a single clear voice representing the maritime manufacturing industries in the UK, and which will also act as the prime point of contact between government and industry. According to Alan Dickinson, SSA president: “Te
