Transas has developed a new product, called Navi-Planner 4000, which can be used as an onboard, back of the bridge upgrade. This offers a single point of access to a wide range of information needed in voyage planning. Demonstrating its capabilities in the
upgrade market, Northrop Grumman Corporation - which controls the Sperry Marine brand - has supplied new electronic navigation systems for Aegean Odyssey, which has recently completed a major refurbishment at Greek shipyard, for the UK-based operator Voyages to Antiquity. T e ship’s bridge has been refi tted with a complete navigation package based on Sperry Marine VisionMaster FT technology and the scope of supply included radars, electronic chart display and information system, gyrocompass, autopilot, ship steering system and other sensors. SRH Marine Electronics, Northrop Grumman’s sales and service agent in Greece, was responsible for installation,
commissioning, testing and technical support, as well as operator training. “The Sperry Marine VisionMaster FT systems provide proven technology and inherent flexibility to meet the ship’s requirements for safe and efficient navigation in a cost-eff ective manner,” said J. Nolasco DaCunha, vice president of Naval Systems International at Northrop Grumman’s Naval and Marine Systems Division, based in the USA. T e company also has major engineering and support offi ces in New Malden, United Kingdom and Hamburg, Germany, and authorised service depots in more than 250 locations worldwide. Kongsberg Maritime has expanded
its service network with the opening of a new subsidiary, Kongsberg Maritime Middle East, in Dubai. T e joint venture with Sharjah-based Unique Systems started operations in June this year and will provide support to shipyards, owners and operators on the Middle East Gulf area. T e company currently has around 30 employees dedicated to the support of all products provided
by Kongsberg Maritime, including advanced automation systems, alarm and monitoring systems, machinery control systems, dynamic positioning systems, navigation systems and hydro acoustic control systems including underwater navigation and seabed mapping systems. Kongsberg Maritime Middle East’s business within the GCC region will focus on off shore vessels, LNG tankers and other specialised vessels operating in the GCC and will take part in upgrade projects at shipyards, including project engineering, installation, commissioning and sea trials. In recent weeks the company has also
expanded its service network, through an enhanced presence in Rio De Janeiro and New Orleans. In both cases meeting the needs of the off shore vessel market is a key focal point. Satellite communications system
specialist, Iridium Communications, has been working on a major project with the ship management firm, Zodiac Maritime Agencies. As a result, Zodiac’s 156 strong fleet of ships has
