Mein Schiff now has Clearshield glass protection onboard.

Glass corrosion from sea salts and exhaust fumes, as well as general dirt and staining, are said to be easier to remove as a result of this ‘non-stick’ surface. This results in improved visibility, pristine-looking glass and fewer passenger complaints, states Ritec. Around 1800m2

of interior and exterior glass

on Mein Schiff was renovated and converted to ClearShield, including cabin windows, balcony doors and areas on the bridge. Ritec’s team was able to complete the work in stages during scheduled stops on one of the ship’s round-trip cruises to France, Spain and Italy.

Ancillary equipment Electrical release

valves for refits The Hamburg-based company Armaturen Wolff has developed a quick-closing valve system with an electrical release mechanism. The valves are connected via a control cabinet, which guarantees an uninterruptible power-supply, and allows the remote control of the release action. According to Armaturen Wolff, electric

quick-closing valves and the corresponding systems are particularly well suitable for retrofit or conversion projects as they facilitate installation of the system. A spokesman has said: “All types of quick-closing valve systems have a central control cabinet to which all valves have to be connected.

Consequently, the total length of control lines can be very long and in conversions and retrofits, where there are space restrictions, it is much more cumbersome to lay pneumatic or hydraulic lines than it is to lay electric cables.” Using an electric quick-closing valve system can thus have a significant cost-saving effect for a project, while also enhancing flexibility, the company states.
