BICSI European conference highlights new trends and data centre standard

The BICSI 2010 European Conference & Exhibition brought together 250 industry professionals and exhibitors for two days of presentations, workshops, debates, social events and networking. John Bentham of CISCom Technology and BICSI Ireland

Country Chair, said, ‘Ireland has been privileged serving as a host for the BICSI European Conference & Exhibition for the third consecutive time. The close accessibility of the conference to our members has helped the development of BICSI in Ireland. This year’s conference was particularly remarkable for the high level content in a format which is only found at BICSI conferences. Keeping up to date with technology developments and standards and having the opportunity of discussing these with other industry professionals is of great value to our members. As the only integrated ITS conference, BICSI provides a unique platform for this. We are already looking forward to next year’s conference in Edinburgh.’ The conference also marked the European launch of

the new data centre standard – BICSI 002-2010, Data Centre Design and Implementation Best Practices, a comprehensive guide to all the requirements and regulations for data centre designers, owners and operators. As the industry’s fi rst standard providing a holistic approach to data centre design, this document will help the roll out of more effi cient data centres, complying with increasingly challenging regulations.

Mayfl ex expands IP security courses

Throughout 2010 Mayfl ex has been working with its suppliers to offer a range of free IP security courses, including general education on IP solutions and introductions to individual products.

These courses have been incredibly popular so far, with more and more people booking their places every week.

Responding to the fact that the global demand for conventional CCTV systems is showing a downward trend as the demand for IP based CCTV surveillance escalates, Mayfl ex worked with CNet to create a bespoke course to help those installers who currently only work with analogue systems.

Following the huge popularity, Mayfl ex has recently expanded its CCTV Over IP course so that more people can attend each session, and dates are planned throughout the year, right up until December. Tracey Calcutt, marketing manager at Mayfl ex, commented, ‘Our customers are

very important to us and we always listen to their needs. We work closely with our suppliers to provide training sessions that will give them more information on the products they want to know about. This is ongoing for us as we are constantly developing new training sessions across our range of products, including networking and infrastructure solutions.’ Full details of all the current courses can be found at www.mayfl ex.com/events.
