Mobotix AG has installed a CCTV solution to a four acre site at Unit Pallets using just 17 cameras.

NYSE Euronext has recently completed a major data centre project in south east Essex, which was designed by Hilson Moran and delivered both on time and on budget. The project forms part of NYSE Euronext’s strategy to upgrade and reinforce its data handling capability across the world. Overall the main building envelope is large enough to accommodate 10 Olympic size swimming pools, making it one of NYSE Euronext’s major European assets. The data centre was constructed on the site of an old manufacturing plant in Basildon. Originally the site was redeveloped to be a major distribution warehouse, but NYSE Euronext saw the potential of the buildings on the site and realised that they met a number of key requirements in terms of physical size and geographical location, as well as being readily adaptable to meet NYSE Euronext’s stringent needs. The project brief demanded the use of an

energy effi cient plant that had a proven track record of high resilience and availability. From day one, the data centre has handled 3.0MW of computer processing load, having been fi tted out with services for three 10,000ft2

data halls. Ultimately the

building can accommodate seven identical halls with a maximum 15.6MW of computer processing load.

provides day and night coverage across the pallet repair and distribution facility in Grangemouth near Falkirk. Unit Pallets is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of timber pallets and produces up to 40,000 and repairs a further 100,000 pallets per week. Unit Pallets recently developed a brownfi eld site in Grangemouth to focus on the repair side of its business. Although its main manufacturing facility in Golborne has had an analogue CCTV system for many years, senior management were unhappy with its performance and decided to look at a digital CCTV for the new site. Unit Pallets selected Eclipse (IP) based on the strength of its product knowledge and a

strong demonstration using Mobotix hemispheric cameras, which required only four cameras to cover the entire 2,000ft2

repair workshop.

The installation uses a mix of hemispheric and dual day and night lens cameras for the perimeter and main vehicle gates.

Health and effi ciency

ANS Group has won a major contract with Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust to implement a new internal network across its hospital site.

The Cisco Nexus technology to be installed and managed by ANS Group will replace the

organisation’s legacy network and lay the foundations for the Trust to continue to improve its internal infrastructure in line with long term IT improvement targets. Based on ANS Group’s Infrastructure 3.0 solution, the project will allow Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust to gradually add various IT functions to its fl exible next generation data centre architecture, without compromising compatibility or facing increased hardware costs.

The Cisco Nexus solution will also allow

the Trust’s employees to access network data such as patient records effi ciently and securely, and improve business continuity to ensure that network failures do not affect the organisation’s operation critical functions. In addition, the solution provided by ANS Group will allow the Trust to make notable cost savings relating to hardware, cabling and administration across the data centre, whilst lowering its carbon footprint.

Back to black

Marshall-Tuffl ex has supplied a matt black trunking solution for high specifi cation university laboratories housing a study into the behaviour of cold atoms. The aluminium Profi le 3003 feeds power and data at dado height around the labs within Birmingham University’s School of Physics and Astronomy. The trunking has also been installed on overhead canopies sited above work benches. Professor Kai Bongs is leading the studying into ‘quantum phenomena by exploiting cold atom gases as a unique window to the quantum world’. He had an exacting specifi cation for the lab fi t-out, specifi cally requested matt black trunking as a safety measure because his work utilises high powered lasers. Should a laser beam escape, black trunking will absorb the light. University electrical engineer George McGahey said the Marshall-Tuffl ex system

was selected both on colour and shape/dimensions, all of which fi tted with the specifi cation required.
