essential selection Double up

Draka Communications is claiming a significant advance in FTTH installation with an enhanced air-jet solution that can double the throughput of fibre delivery. Its Ready-Connect Duplex accommodates two pre-ferruled bend insensitive (BendBrightXS) fibres that are blown through micro-ducts to the customer outlet box at higher speeds and efficiency than current technology allows. This new solution also eliminates the need for the multiple technician visits that were previously required to customer homes, with consequent cost savings. The Ready-Connect system involves blowing

pre-ferruled cables (cables with pre-fabricated semi- finished connectors) through micro-ducts directly to a termination or distribution point inside a home. The solution uses jets of compressed air injected from a central point up to a kilometre away and can service up to 50 homes in a single session. Installation is completed by simply snapping the connector housing around the ferrule. These precision assembled ferrules reduce the risks of manually completing the connection on site. Draka estimates that implementation time and labour costs can be reduced by as much as 50 per cent with additional savings achieved through reduced cable splicing and storage space. Get a handle on it

Handling fibre and the new 10Gb/s augmented Category 6 cabling in data centres is becoming significantly more difficult to deal with. With greater core diameters, which in turn cause larger bend radii, the enclosure is no longer a secondary consideration. Both the Rittal TS 8 and TE7000 range of enclosures provide advanced cable management such as gland plate modules with brush strip for cable entry, grooved cable routing panels and also fibre optic shunting rings where strain relief and bend radii are guaranteed.

Rittal’s high density patching solutions can be attached to mounting angles, to 19 inch mounting frames and on the side of the IT rack framework. Back to back mounting is also possible whereby the openings already integrated in the duct are used for routing cables between the levels. A continuous system of punchings, integrated within the cable duct, allows the continuous assembly of more cable management elements and structuring aids. Patching density can be increased by up to 30 per cent to a maximum of 1,008 ports per rack which helps to significantly cut the total investment required and also reduce the floor space used. The new Fusion Contact Series Cabinets from Mills have been specifically designed for quick installation and cost effectiveness to support large projects, offering up to 60 per cent cost savings. The series comprises wall and free standing cabinets, both of which are available on a next day basis to mainland UK from stock in London. The wall cabinets are available in 6U, 9U and 12U in a 600x450mm deep single section design and also in a 600x550mm deep tow section swing frame format. Both types are manufactured from 1.5mm welded steel with reversible and lockable glass front doors, adjustable 19 inch front and rear mounting profiles and removable side panels for ease of installation and inspection. To make the installer’s life easier, both formats feature pre-formed cable access holes with knockouts, on the top and bottom of the cabinet, specifically designed to accept 100x50mm and 50x50mm maxi trunking and also 2x25mm diameter holes for conduit.

Fusion Contact Series

free standing cabinets cover the popular sizes of 18-24U in a variety of 600 and 800mm footprints. For further information visit: www.millsltd.com

Netbit UK has recently launched its new range of voltage surge protected PDU series, called SurgePro, which already complement its popular and competitively priced standard PDUs. Allowing complete protection for active networking and telco appliances, the SurgePro PDUs effectively prevent inbound electrical spikes and surges from overheating components on active equipment which reduces product lifespan, intermittent operation and complete system downtime. Moreover, the new LMS Data SurgePro PDUs offer

a unique ground (earth) verification display. When the PDU is connected to an existing power outlet, the LMS SurgePro PDU will verify that earthing is both correct and continuous, thus allowing the installer or IT manager to see visually, via a single notification LED on the PDU, that earthing is functional. Available in both vertical and 19 inch horizontal rackmount formats, the PDUs also feature an illuminated on/off switch with surround protection in case of accidental switching.
