patching special feature Novel solution

As deployment of high speed copper networks increases in general offices and data centres, the provision of good electrical performance whilst managing large volumes of cord within a defined space presents significant challenges. Because the quality of the cords is not regulated, Brand-Rex believes that patch cords represent the ‘Achilles heel’ of high speed copper networks. Patch cords tend to be purchased on price rather than function or fit. To assure quality, Brand-Rex holds independent, third party certification for its cable plant and cord assembly facility. In addition, the company’s products are designed with headroom on key electrical parameters to enable systems to withstand the rigours of installation and use.

Managing patch cords within the patching area is crucial for maintaining the quality of electrical performance, and for providing the owner/operator with open and functional patching fields. Brand-Rex continues to deliver novel

solutions into this space with its high density cabling cabinets and frames, innovative Cu and Optical 19 inch panel solutions, and small diameter, flexible, user friendly, high performance patchcords. The company’s new cabinets and patch panels augment Brand-Rex innovative intelligent patching product, Smartpatch, as well as the wide range of standard accessories used across its copper and fibre portfolios. Lead the way

HellermannTyton has relaunched its copper patch lead range, repackaged in individual bags with test results supplied for each patch lead. The high per formance patch leads are UK

manufactured exceeding the ISO/IEC 11801 and ANSI/TIA/EIA 568-C.2 Category 6 and Category 5e standards. Available in a variety of colours and lengths

as standard, the HellermannTyton patch lead is fitted with a low profile plug ideal for the data centre environment. HellermannTyton will accommodate customer

requirements on patch lead length colour and barcode identification on request for both the Category 5e and Category 6 ranges. For further information visit: www.htdata.co.uk

Look to the future

The Amp Netconnect business unit of Tyco Electronics offers a complete range of patch panels, which are compatible with the Amptrac Intelligent Infrastructure Management System (IIMS). All performance levels and

cabling systems are supported, including Category 5e, Category 6 in UTP and STP and Category 6A/7/7A in STP or fibre optic solutions.

The Amp Netconnect range includes two options. Amptrac ready panels are like any classical patch panel, but provide for a later upgrade by allowing a sensor module to be added to the front. Full Amptrac panels already include Amptrac sensors, which make a future upgrade even easier and faster. For further information visit: www.ampnetconnect.co.uk

In the mix

Nexans has a full range of patching products for both fibre and copper solutions to meet every environment and application.

For copper all

categories of cabling are covered from Category 5e to Category 7A, and the products can be presented in different formats. Standard or angled patch panels are available with a full range of accessories such as cover and blanking plates and pass throughs. Nexans can also provide special versions of patch panels for harsh environments such as industry or maritime, offering features such as vibration resistance. Nexans provides a full range of fibre patching supporting all standard connector types such as LC and SC. Nexans’ ‘snap-in’ format enables copper and fibre to be mixed in small installations; or there are pre-loaded versions allowing fast installation and offering high density options up to 96 fibres in 1HU. MPO and pre-terminated solutions are also available.

Intelligent patch panels for both copper and fibre are available in Nexans’ LANsense range. The LANsense panels have in-built contacts which detect the connection status of each port when connected with a LANsense patchcord, and can be connected to an analyser via an I/O cable to provide an Intelligent Infrastructure Management (IIM) platform to reduce management and maintenance costs.
