Colt has launched its modular data centre, a radical new approach to data centres which redefi nes the method of construction and delivery of large data centre halls. The entire Colt modular data centre, including all power and cooling elements, is
constructed and tested in approved manufacturing facilities using modern component based production line techniques before being transported to its fi nal location – either to a Colt managed data centre site, or to a site of the customer’s own choosing. The Ha-VIS FTS 3100s-A is the fi rst switch in the Harting family of Industrial Ethernet switches to offer the company’s innovative fast track switching technology – a solution that satisfi es the majority of performance and determinism requirements in Ethernet networks for automation applications. The switch detects real time automation frames
and uses the cut-through method to accelerate their transmission. These automation frames are always forwarded before other types – in other words, they always have the right of way over non- real time frames.
The FTS 3100s-A incorporates 10 Fast Ethernet
ports, and is an unmanaged switch that can be confi gured with the FTS manager via a USB interface. It combines the simple handling of a plug and play device with individual setting options tuned to the particularly automation application. Port related settings, such as data rate, duplex mode and port mirroring are easy to set up. The FTS manager allows users to select the automation protocols that are to be detected and put on the fast track. The AMP Netconnect business unit of Tyco Electronics has its reduced diameter MRJ21 ultra slim Gigabit Ethernet cabling system.
The trimmed down MRJ21 ultra slim cable assembly is 9.14 mm in diameter, weighs 40 per cent less than comparable four pair cabling systems, occupies 45 per cent less rack space, requires 25 per cent less power per port, and promises to help to reduce data centre operating costs. The MRJ21 ultra slim cable assembly is a major development in the structured cabling marketplace, especially for data centre customers who are seeking to optimise space in the rack, on the fl oor, and throughout cable pathways.
Installation of the MRJ21 ultra slim cabling system is six to 10 times faster than four pair cabling, with signifi cant reductions in the cable management and routing problems of bundled cabling systems. Engineered to support more ports per rack, the lean MRJ21 ultra slim cabling system supports six ports of Gigabit Ethernet interface, which dramatically increases the number of ports customers can include in a single rack.
