Nexans welcomes data centre standard

Nexans has welcomed the latest data centre standard from the international standards organisation (ISO). The standard, ISO/IEC 24764, was published in April and requires copper cabling to support a minimum frequency of at least 500MHz. This effectively limits data centre copper cabling to Class EA (500MHz), Class F (600MHz) or Class FA 1000MHz) cabling and an RJ-45 compatible connector interface. The new standard is important as it harmonises the

requirements for copper cable and connectors used for data centres with the products defined for use in office buildings. Nexans is delighted that its GG45 connector was re-elected as the interface for Class F and Class FA. The new data centre standard specifies the use of IEC 60603-7 RJ-45 compatible connectors for copper cabling and specifically the IEC 60603-7-71 GG45 connector for Category 7 and Category 7A cabling. Only in installations where cable sharing is used inside of data centres are other interfaces allowed. Martin Rossbach, director of product marketing for Nexans, said, ‘Once again ISO has recognised the importance of backwards compatibility for data centre design, and specified a connector which provides this. The specified IEC 60603-7-71 connector is the Nexans’ GG45 connector, which is compatible with all RJ-45 legacy equipment and also allows organisations to future-proof their data centres by supporting bandwidths of 40G and higher.’

Silver Fox

Silver Fox is to extend its UK distribution network with Cable Management Warehouse (CMW). Silver Fox has signed a

distribution contract with CMW aimed at targeting contractors and installers within the data networking and telecommunications industry in the UK. CMW will offer a full por tfolio of complementary products including tie-on cable labels, wrap around self-laminating labels, patch panels, fibre optic flag labels and labelling software.

Nick Michaelson, managing director, Silver Fox, said, ‘We are pleased to welcome our new partner on board and look forward to working closely with them to enhance our existing distribution activities here in the UK. Siemon launches intelligent building programme

Siemon has launched a new ConvergeIT intelligent building cabling programme. ConvergeIT combines Siemon’s network infrastructure expertise and technical and installation support capabilities with its structured cabling product line, to provide a straightforward process for the implementation of a converged, IP based intelligent building cabling system. The programme has been developed to help architects, design- build firms, building owners and contractors plan and deploy efficient IT cabling infrastructure for support of green intelligent buildings. Growing in global popularity, the intelligent or ‘smart’ building concept

combines multiple data, low voltage and building automation applications onto one centrally managed network. These converged systems can include voice/data, video surveillance, access control, digital signage, audio/video, fire alarms, energy management, HVAC and more. Siemon’s ConvergeIT programme takes the intelligent building

approach a step further, supporting the facility’s various low voltage applications on a single IP based structured cabling system, rather than on separate and often proprietary cabling plants. ‘IT structured cabling is the ideal solution for a converged intelligent building cabling infrastructure,’ explained Robert Carlson, Siemon’s vice president of global marketing. ‘It provides the flexibility and performance to support multiple critical building systems at the highest reliability levels.’

Brand-Rex achieves Investor in Excellence status

Brand-Rex has joined an elite band of businesses to have achieved Investor in Excellence status, one of Europe’s highest quality standards. The company’s Speciality division in Leigh, Lancashire, is now one of just 200 European businesses to be awarded the accolade, which demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement. The Investor in Excellence standard has been designed to

encourage organisations of any size, and from any sector, to work towards a common standard that reflects quality and excellence. The company received its award from North of England Excellence, which was presented to Brand-Rex by local MP Andy Burnham. The standard is built around the European Foundation of Quality

Management (EFQM) excellence model, which is widely used throughout Europe as a framework for improving organisations. Brand-Rex’s speciality division manufactures high performance electrical cables for the aerospace, automotive and rail industries. General manager Steve Tickle, explained, ‘Many of our products are designed to operate in extreme environments, and across a range of industries where high quality must be a given. Achieving an accreditation like this reassures all our customers that we’re a company that always puts quality first.’
