patching special feature Volume control
Rittal has expanded its range of high density patching accessories with the introduction of two cable ducts for 1000 and 2000mm high enclosures. To complement the cable ducts, Rittal has also launched new cable shunting elements which can handle excess lengths of cable and be applied as a radius reducer when redirecting cables. These new products will aid in the accommodation of large volumes of cable within the network distribution system and reduce the amount of space employed for cabling in data centres. The new cable shunting element guides cables through special ducts for each height unit on the side of the distribution level. Users can work on the 19 inch level without any additional elements due to the height unit related cable routing to the connection port integrated network, switches or the stated distributor level. This achieves the best possible use of the height units available in the network distributor for connecting purposes. An additional benefit from this new approach is that the density of the connection points can be increased by up to 50 per cent to a maximum of 1008 ports per rack, which can help to significantly cut investment costs. Splice of life
Prysmian has introduced the SRS3000 modular sub-rack system and patch panel range for optical splicing and patching. Offering a wide variety of configurations, it enables users to customise the product for different
applications, with the flexibility to adapt the system as requirements change. For installation into 19 inch, ETSI or ANSI racks, street-side cabinets or wall mounted racks,
the product consists of metal chassis available in 1U, 2U and 3U options into which a choice of modules can be loaded to create a system to match customer needs. The range of modules includes splice and patch, patch only and splice only modules, which can accommodate up to 48 fibres per 1U unit. Modules are supplied with a range of connector types for both singlemode and multimode fibre, which can be factory fitted or supplied as a kit. They can also be configured to hold optical devices such as splitters and WDMs on request. A patchcord storage module completes the module range. The sub-rack can be supplied fully configured or modules can be supplied empty for upgrading with pigtails and adaptors at a later date to accommodate changing system needs. The cable anchoring system allows all types of optical cables (including blown fibre) to be routed onto the sub-rack and modules. For further information visit:

Open for business
Schroff UK has introduced two post and four post open patching frames and associated horizontal and vertical cable
management products, designed
primarily for high cable density data centre and computer room installations. Manufactured by sister company Hoffman, the Cabletek family ensures that copper and fibre cable runs are optimised for ease of installation, cable density and protection. The heavy duty free-standing aluminium frames are easy to assemble, stable and rigid in use; the two post frame is rated to support a static load of up to 450kg, the four post up to 1,130 kg. Available in 45U, 51U and 58U heights, 150, 250 and 305mm widths and single and double sided models, the vertical cable manager mounts on the sides of, or between the verticals in two and four post open frame racks. The front of the manager provides support, management and high capacity for patch cords, while the rear section supports Category 5e, 6, 6A and fibre optic cables. Capacity at 60 per cent fill is more than 1,900 Category 5e cables at the front and over a 1,000 at the rear in a 300mm wide unit. A readily removable front cover opens through 180° to provide full access to the cables and deep fingers accept up to 85 Category 5e cables per section. For further information visit:

LMS Data distributor, Netbit, has announced the immediate availability of the new VertiPunch 24 way patch panel featuring vertical IDC punchdown termination. Listening to what its customers sometimes want in restrictive installation projects such as wall mount enclosures and other hard-to-reach areas, the VertiPunch allows ‘front-side’ cabling termination without the need to physically get to the rear of a standard back facing IDC patch panel. The LMS Data VertiPunch is available in both Category 5e and Category 6 versions and features a high quality 1U, 19 inch metal chassis, colour coded TIA-568A/B Krone IDC termination blocks and rear cable management tabs so that the inbound cable will remain secure, even when the panel is pulled forward. For added piece of mind, the LMS Data VertiPunch series is covered with the Synthesis 25 year structured cabling warranty. For further information visit:
