The “Institut für Druckmaschinen und Druckver- fahren – IDD“, (Institute for Printing Science and Technology) at the Technical University of Darm- stadt, Germany, is developing with a research group of about 20 researchers advanced printing techno- logies for functional materials and devices.

The work is funded within the scope of the “Spit- zencluster Forum Organic Electronics” of the Rhine- Neckar metropolitan region which is promoted by the BMBF (German Federal Ministry of Education and Research).

The project’s goal is the development of innovative printing technologies for smart labels, displays and OLEDs. The scientific approach of a process model for printed electronics is new. Cluster part- ners are Merck, BASF, SAP, Bosch, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen and PolyIC, among others.

The photooxidation of cadmium sul- fide nanoparticles within cadmium telluride nano- particle ribbons causes surface stresses that lead to twisting.
