Total sales increased 18.5% to $25.4 million in the first quarter of 2010 from $21.5 million for the comparable period in 2009. Revenue for the III-V product family increased 110% to $14.5 million from $6.9 million in the same period of 2009, while display revenue was $10.9 million in the first quarter of 2010 compared with $14.6 million in the same period of 2009. Research and development revenues more than doubled in the first quarter of 2010 to $1.6 million from $0.9 million in the first quarter of 2009, reflecting an increase in design activity associated with military programs and displays for consumer electronics. Kopin®

has received a $16M follow-on

production order of display modules for the U.S. Army‘s Thermal Weapon Sight (TWS) program. This order, to be fulfilled over a 15-month period star- ting this September, supports continued production of Kopin‘s high-performance 640M display module for the Light, Medium, and Heavy Thermal Weapon Sights (LTWS, MTWS, HTWS). http://www.kopin.com

eica Microsystems presents a smart solution for superior contrast in fluorescence imaging. Intel-

ligent Structured Illumination Microscopy uses the proven OptiGrid®

technique. Working in harmony

with Leica’s superior quality optics, the aperture di- aphragm integrated with the fluorescence light path also enhances contrast. The automatic focus function of the OptiGrid®

keeps the grid structure in focus, from UV to IR light.

A unique feature of this development is that the same OptiGrid®

module can be used both for upright

and for inverted Leica research microscopes. Fur- thermore, there is no need to change the grid, as one optimized grid covers all magnifications from 10x to 100x, which offers convenience, avoids errors, and saves valuable time. http://www.leica-microsystems.com
