vonik Industries, Germany, has acquired the precious metal powder catalysts business of
Ravindra Heraeus Pvt. Limited, Udaipur (Rajast- han, India) on June 3, 2010. As stipulated in the agreement, all know-how, technology, and business relationships with catalyst customers will pass from Ravindra Heraeus to Evonik, while the production equipment will remain with the Indian company. Both partners have also concluded long-term ag- reements concerning contract manufacturing and precious metal recycling. Based on these agree- ments, Ravindra Heraeus will continue to produce precious metal catalysts for the Indian market and recycle used catalysts at its site in Udaipur on behalf of Evonik. The catalysts for Evonik‘s existing Indian customers are currently imported from Germany. In the future, these products will also be manufactured by Ravindra Heraeus in India. Furthermore, Evonik successfully completed the refi- nancing of its present EUR2.25 billion credit facility on June 8th, 2010. The total volume of the new facility has been reduced to EUR1.5 billion thanks to the cash inflow from the placement of a EUR750 million bond in October 2009. how the Fluidigm EP1™ System provides the ideal solution for high sample throughput SNP genotyping studies in animals and plants because it offers out- standing data quality and workflow efficiency. Typi- cally genetic applications start with the collection of DNA samples. Blood samples are expensive to coll- ect, as well as complex and costly to ship, store and process. Hair follicles and ear punches are inefficient to process and can provide low quality DNA, resul- ting in failed samples and a requirement to recollect, incurring additional cost, effort and time.
The authors describe how the Fluidigm EP1 System and Dynamic Array™ Integrated Fluidic Circuits (IFC‘s) were used to genotype 48 cattle nasal samples in duplicate tested against a 96 SNP parentage panel developed by a USDA-led cattle consortium. The na- sal swab samples were obtained using the Performa- gene. Furthermore, Fluidigm Corporation presented the new FC1™ Cycler, which is designed to reduce the thermal cycling time by a factor of three when compared with the company‘s current products.
