Former co-owner of Urban-Ltd., died sud- denly at his home in Arlington onWednes- day, June 16, 2010. Barry was 65. He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Carolyn Porter Smith; his son, Bar- ton Alexander Smith of Boulder, Colorado; and his brother, Thomas Spence Smith of Rochester,NewYork.He was predeceased by his father, ColonelThomas Smith and by his mother, Doris Smith, both of Baltimore. Barry was an engineer's engineer.He loved his work and helped to build one of the most successful and respected companies in the middle Atlantic region, with offices in Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. By all those who knew and worked with him, Barry was admired as an intense and analytical figure with gentle manners, common sense, and a love of his friends. Barry attended the University of Maryland, graduating in 1966 with high honors and election to Tau Beta Pi and Chi Epsilon, the national honorary fraternity in civil engineering. He served in the Maryland National Guard during the years after grad- uating from college.He retired from Urban- Ltd. in October, 2009, and had looked forward to the settled leisure that his lifetime of achievement has made possi- ble. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday June 21, 2010 at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd, Mt. MARY LOUWHITTENBERG


On June 6, 2010 at The Virginian retirement community in Fairfax, Virginia, after a long illness surrounded by her loving family. She will always be remembered for her faith, kindness, joyfulness and style and that she valued spending time with family and friends above all else. Among her many interests were dancing, reading, music, and travel. Relocating with her husband's naval career, she brought her professional and innovative skills to three different Blue Cross/Blue Shield divisions, as well as sev- eral Washington area medical insurance providers and private medical practices. In retirement, she was a multi-term resident- president of St Andrews Retirement Com- munity in Boca Raton, Florida. Mary Lou was born in 1934 in Wichita, KS to Raymond and MarieWood and raised in Kansas. Her marriage to Sidney Teaford, with whom she had her five children, ended in divorce. She was preceded in death by her second husband, William Whittenberg in 2006. She will be sorely missed by her children, James Teaford, Annandale, VA; Virginia Teaford, Arlington, VA, Susan Teaford and Nancy Gardner, both of Springfield, VA; and David Teaford, Fredericksburg, VA; and their spouses. She was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren and a great-grand- child and also leaves behind a dear brother, Ronald Wood of Round Rock, TX. Her inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
