Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1922, he emigrated with his parents to the US when only two months old. Active in Scouting, he became the then-youngest Eagle Scout in Connecticut shortly before his 15th birthday. He also attended the 1st National Jamboree in Washington in 1939, and became a member of the Boy Scout Service Corps at the 1939 New York World’s Fair. During the Second World War he served in Europe with the 188th Combat Engineers, part of General Patton’s Third Army. After the war he enjoyed his time with family and friends, serving as a scoutmaster, working with the American Theater Organ Society, or just entertaining with his stories, jokes, or banjo. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity for more than six decades.
In 1947 he married the former Enid Pearl Balding of Hull, England, and together they raised their three sons until her death in 1963. His 1966 marriage to the former Anna May Bals ended with divorce in 1969. In 1977 he married the former Ida Smith who predeceased him in 2002.
He is survived by his sons Douglas Edmond Bell, George Alexander Bell, and Dana Moore Bell, and by his grandchildren Colleen Lorraine Bell, Geoffrey Alan Bell, Melissa Ulrike Bell, and MacKenzie Donald Walter Bell.

MICHAEL STUART CARSWELL Capt., USN (Ret.)
Michael Stuart Carswell died on June 7, 2010 at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Roanoke, VA. He was born on August 7, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri. He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Louise Carswell of Washington, DC and Martha Grady Carswell Dudley of Natural Bridge, VA, her husband, Todd; three grandchildren, Olivia Whitford Dudley, Catherine Anne Dudley and Margaret Elizabeth Dudley and former wife, Elizabeth Grady Carswell of Lexington, VA. He received his Bachelor of Science from Purdue University and entered the Navy through the NROTC program where he was commissioned an Ensign in June, 1956. He received his Masters of Science in Oceanography at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, in 1968. Capt. Carswell taught engineering and naviga- tion at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in the NROTC program. He was then Aide and Flag Lieutenant to Commander Amphibious Training Command, Little Creek VA. He served as Intelligence Liaison, US Military Assistance Command, Vietnam and was Caribbean Plans Officer on Staff of Commander- in-Chief, US Atlantic Fleet. His sea duty stations included the USS Frank Knox (DDR-742), USS Luce (DLG7), USS O'Ban- non (DD-450), Chief of Staff Officer of Des- RonTwo and finally as commanding officer of the USS Glennon (DD840). He served at the Pentagon in 1978-1980 and retired May 30, 1980. After his retirement from the Navy, he was employed by TechPlan Corp. in Arlington, VA in 1991 to 1993 as a consultant. He continued working as an independent computer consultant until he retired to Arizona in 1995. Capt. Carswell will be buried at the Arlington National Cemetery on October 6, 2010 at 1 p.m.

Led an active and full life. He leaves one daughter, Cindy Stackhouse and spouse Hartley in Virginia; three sons, Chandler and spouse Laura in Duluth, GA, Robert Jr. and spouse Dohna in Douglasville, GA and Clay Sewell and spouse Carey in Thomasville, GA. 9 grandchildren; Amy, Kara, Clay, Jessie, Jenny, Megan, Travis, Sam and Caroline. His brother Jack Brown is in Arizona. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Nebraska. Bob, a resident in Roswell, GA is a war hero and a champion golfer with a love of friends and heart of gold. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corps, later the Air Force in Korean War and spent the next 20 years inWashington D.C. and South America. After the stellar military career he retired and continued working in the Electrical distribution Industry. He was instrumental in the formation of Southern Independent electrical Distributors, The Independent Electrical Distributors and finally organized and ran Greater Atlanta Electrical League. Retired again from that career to enjoy family and restart his golf career. It has been said "he has the prettiest swing in golf". After a fairly short illness he lost the battle peacefully in his sleep on June 17, at home. He was a patriot, a loving husband, father and grandfather and a wonderful friend. He is missed. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 10 am,Wednesday, June 23, at Mount Pisgah Methodist Church. Family arrangements are under the care of Roswell Funeral Home.

Of Northern Virginia died June 17, 2010.He was born December 31, 1942, in Glen Ridge, NJ, the son of Emil and Pat Caswell. Kaz attended Marist High School in Atlanta, GA, and then earned a B.S. in Ceramic Engineering from Clemson University, an M.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D in Statistics and Operations Research from the Rensselaer Poly- technic Institute in Troy, New York. After retiring as Lt. Colonel and Deputy Directory for the United States Air Force Data Service Center at the Pentagon in 1984, Dr. Caswell worked in a number of highly specialized positions in the IT industry around the DC metropolitan region for the next 20 years. Without question, Kaz’s greatest pleasures were his family and his Clemson Tigers. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Ann A. Caswell; daughter Teri Caswell and wife Kathi Westcott of Silver Spring, MD; son Rich and wife Pam Caswell; granddaughters Krista and Nicki Caswell of Springfield, VA, and many loving relatives and friends. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Alexandria and the American Legion. John took pride in his patriotism and gave generously in support of various organizations. He especially enjoyed family gatherings, was a dedicated fan of Redskins football, the NASA space program, and loved reading, listening to music and watching classic movies. On June 5, 2010, Mr. Hamasaki, 63, passed away quietly and peacefully in the Critical Care Intensive Care Unit of the Anne Arun- del Medical Center in Annapolis, Maryland. Mr. Hamasaki was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and was a 1964 graduate of the Iolani School. As a software engineer with advanced degrees in Chemistry and Com- puter Sciences from George Washington University, Cory Hamasaki worked in and around the Washington, D.C. metro area for many government agencies and private companies for almost 40 years. In the late 1990s, he founded the DCWeather Report, which predicted the economic unwinding and troubled times that followed the stock market crash on January 14, 2000. The W- RP Yahoo discussion group is an adjunct to theWeather Report, which offers people discussions on life, the economy, the world and technical issues. Suitable topics includ- ed preparedness, community, sharing news items, suggestions for surviving and pros- pering during the economic unwinding, as well as issues concerning computer programming, consulting, contracting, and preparing for exceptional events. Cory's commentaries were noted for their humor, insight, irony, parody, and information on all aspects of life and self sufficiency. Cory Hamasaki had a passionate and patri- otic love for his country and the principles of the free enterprise system upon which our country was founded. He was a mem- ber of the Foundation for Amateur Radio - MD, D.C,VA Chapter, and enjoyed attending local Hamfests. His other interests included the joy of comic books, science fiction, history, dinosaurs, hand-craftsmanship, and the beauty of nature. Cory Hamasaki was best known for his generous heart, kind and gentle compassion for all, positive outlook on life, and his belief that we all have a responsibility to "pay-it-forward."
A celebration memorial of his life will be held within 49 days of his passing. Cory Hamasaki was the very beloved hus- band of Nancy Jones Hoyt of Severna Park, Maryland, father of Chloe Kiyo Hamasaki, stepfather to Ayn Hoyt of Fredrica, DE, Eve Hoyt of Glenside, PA, and step-grandfather to Ani Rose and Celia Grace Varady of Glenside, PA. He was the son of the late Harold Hamasaki of Honolulu, Hawaii. L. Norman Forry of Montclair, VA, passed away on May 8, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in DC. Norm is preceded in death by his son, Michael N. Forry and wife, Beverly L. Forry. He is survived by daughter, Marjorie B. Castro (Ernest G.) of Oakton, VA and son, John P. Forry of Annandale, VA, step-daughters, Karen Christensen (Marty) of Dallas, TX and Patricia A. Slezak of Dumfries, VA, step-son, Jeffery A. Slezak of Herndon, VA, and grandchildren, Robbie, Mark and Michelle Castro, Laura Forry, Brendan and Daniel Slezak, Kelly Smith and John and Kyle Warwick. Norm was a Private First Class in the U.S. Army. He was a POW in Korea and Norm was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star with Valor, Korean Service Medal w/1 Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantryman Badge and Distinguished Unite Emblem. After returning from Korea,Norman began his career as an Optician. Norman operated and owned Woodbridge Opticians in both Dale City/Wood- bridge and Alexandria Opticians for over 25 years. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War, Post 179, Disabled Veterans of America and was also a member of the American Legion, Post 176. Norm was a Deacon at Hatcher's Memorial Baptist Church in Bristow, VA. A visitation and celebration of Norm's life will be held on Monday, June 28, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. The interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington,VA.
Dr. William R. Hernandez, beloved husband of Georgina Sorzano Hernandez, passed away March 17, 2010 in Naples, Florida. Dr. Hernan- dez graduated from Georgetown University Dental School and received his MSD in peri- odontics from Baylor University, His private practice was located in Washington, D.C. and, as clinical professor, he taught at Georgetown University's Dental School until its closure in 1990. He was a founding member of the American Academy of Periodontology, active member of the District of Columbia Dental Society, American Dental Association, Mai- monides Medical Society, PSI Omega Frater- nity, Galen Society of the Virginia Hospital Center and past president of the Pan American Medical Society. In addition, he volunteered his periodontal services for more than thirty years to the Catholic Charities' Spanish Catholic Center. Interment services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on June 24, 2010 at 10 a.m.

John was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Helen Hicks and his son, John Edward Hicks.He is survived by three daughters, Donna Manuel, Sharon Hicks, and Laurie Owens; one son-in-law, Roy Owens; his sister, Dorothy "Dot" Thomas; and his brother, James "Jimmy" Hicks.
