Our Tauck Directors are the heart and soul of the Tauck experience – and they never cease to amaze with
their wealth of interests and experience. I find it most interesting that there is always one unique interest,
past profession or accomplishment that surprises!

Sales Ambassador, 1958 – Forever
Scotty Johnston
After a 50-year career at Tauck, our long-time Sales Ambassador officially retired
in 2009. Of course, Scotty became the President of the Tauck Alumni Club the
following day and will always remain our beloved Sales Ambassador. His amusing
stories and anecdotes highlight every conversation with him. We recently asked
Scotty about his early days with Tauck, and he shared the following:
“I was the Bell Captain at The Pines Hotel in Digby, Nova Scotia, when Arthur
Tauck Jr. pioneered the first air charter and tour in 1958. The first tour director
was Mr. Jack O’Brien, from Massachusetts, who clearly defined the relationship
he wanted to have with our hotel – and me. Simply – everything had to be ‘done
right.’ Well, yes sir, it sure was from that first day onward – we had the best
relationship with the best tour operator that ever walked into our hotel. I was only
a teenager, but I saw a difference – happier guests, smoother check-in procedure
(all done in advance), more engaged and informed tour directors… I remember
one time when five different motor coaches arrived together – and Jack O’Brien
was the only tour director who phoned ahead to get his room assignments. I told
my bellmen “take #5 first” – and we were through delivering the Tauck luggage mentioned, no days of work, no letters of reference, no resume and no contract.

Director with us this summer.’ That was the first I knew I had been hired. Arthur,
