The local guides
have it!...
No one is a better judge of a family vacation than a child. They
will tell it the way it is, every time. So, it was particularly pleasing
this past summer when our son Christopher looked up from bed
and told my wife Kiki and me that it had been “the greatest day
of my life.” He meant every word. This was a bit surprising to
me because we had spent much of the afternoon in the British
Museum and touring the historical landmarks of London. Before
the day had begun, the thought occurred to me that young kids and
museums aren’t always the best combination.
I could not have been more wrong. The reason the day had been
so successful was the local Tauck guide. It was the guide that had
been able to keep Christopher’s attention for hours… something his
dad has trouble doing for ten minutes!
The value of our local guide went beyond making that day special.
It was also a lesson in teaching, making learning easy and fun by
really connecting you with the destination. It’s mind-boggling how
much history our kids learned on our trip to London and Paris, and
how they were able to remember what they learned long after the
trip was over.
Another great benefit of Tauck’s escorted family travel was the
incredible time we saved because it was so well organized; every
possible detail had been taken care of which enabled us to
experience so much more than we could on our own. It freed us
from the responsibility (and anxiety) of dealing with the logistics of
a family vacation. The result was really the gift of time… to spend
quality, carefree time together as a family. It also enabled us to
become really engaged in the destination, culture and new friends.
Ted Richardson, another dad on our trip, said it best: “I’d be toast
if I had to do this on my own.”
